Keypad Gen2 Mode Lights

hello Ring - any progress on this?

leaving the mode LED lit up when the keyboard is continuously powered is such a basic function, why can’t you provide it as an option? As it stands those of us who originally had gen1 keypads have lost an important feature. When my gen1 keyboard died under warranty (sound died) there was no opportunity to replace it with another gen1, I was forced to accept a gen2 keypad and less functionality than I originally had

there’s lots of votes on this (keep them coming, Ring community!). Why doesn’t Ring listen to the Community and make this simple improvement? - it most certainly is feasible to fix in a firmware update and would make the system so much better.

100 % agree.
Why would Ring remove this critical feature?
I’m definitely thinking of going to a different security system because of this dumb omission.

Count me as yet another user who wishes the mode light would always stay lit while the keypad is plugged into power. Is anyone from Ring even reading this forum?

Shame this simple overlooked feature hasn’t been implemented yet. Good thing they’re focusing their efforts on more pressing updates like killing off the Windows desktop app…

Where do we request that those that develop Ring products and feature updates, also actually USE Ring products? It’s clear the development team that’s behind the wheel here don’t actually use Ring or basic functionality such as the mode lights wouldn’t have been overlooked.

Please fix this issue! This sucks!!! My gen 1 did this. Why in the world would you remove this important feature. Do your designers even use ring devices? FIX THIS!!!

How many votes are required before Ring considers customers’ feedback?

Surely this has got to be one of the most requested features for the Ring Alarm system, especially if you add up the votes of all the many separate threads in this forum asking for the same fix to the Gen2 keypad

Oh and don’t forget this is such a basic feature that existed in Gen1 keypads but was inexplicably removed in Gen2

edit: a quick search found all these threads asking for the same fix to the Gen 2 keypad mode lights. There’s certainly even more threads that this…

Agreed. Also requesting option to have the keypad stay lit so that I dont have to contantly wonder if its even working… Gen 1 keypad died inexplicably, and i only figured out it was dead because the LED lights were off. With Gen 2, I have to constantly walk over and wave hands over it to make sure it’s still working–seems very low tech…

Just want to share some thoughts with you after started using Ring Security system. Since I have used few other security systems before, I found that the keypad is too simple but lack of some features. For example, there is no LED light indicated the alarm has been armed visually from a distance. I do not want to access to my phone every time. If my wife armed the alarm STAY, I wouldn’t know until I check the base (Red light ON) or check the phone status. Also, it is not convenience to put in the code # before arming STAY or AWAY. We should be able to just press the STAY or AWAY button once to activate. You might say the extra step by putting the code before arming in case of accidentally hit the button. In fact, it never happened when we had the old system. Plus the alarm will sound when you press the button. You can just clear the function right away. Last thing I want to mention is if there are any malfunction contacts need to Bypass, the keypad speaker should announce the specific location need to be Bypassed. We do not want to open the app and check. It is just not efficient. I love the low monthly charge and I hope I can see the improvement in the nearly future.

I think this is a nobrainer, please add the feature you have on the old Gen 1 keypads by letting us keep the status light, and possibly the numbers lit all the time while the keypad is plugged in. I was disapointed to see it doesnt work that way. It would be great as a option we can toggle on and off please

Without any light it appears dead. May switch back to prior keypad. Many alarm owners are by nature a bit paranoid so may check to see if alarm is on or off. Now I have to walk up to it; sucks when in bed.

I’m so surprised this doesn’t exist! I set the alarm off in the middle of the night letting the dog out because it was so dark out and nothing was lit up to remind me the alarm was on. This doesn’t seem like a feature that was requested to remove from gen 1 to gen 2?

I want to bring this thread back to life. I got a 2nd gen keypad to compliment my 1st gen keypad, and I am extremely disappointed there is no option to have the mode light always on. Even when my alarm is armed, the mode light is not displayed! It is very annoying to have to walk up to my keypad to trigger the “motion activated light” to see if my alarm is active or not.

PLEASE add in the feature to enable/disable this light (or just make it always on like the 1st gen). Otherwise I think I’ll return this keypad and try to get my hands on another 1st gen.

I Agree 100%. Please add in this functionality.

Not having this BASIC FUNCTIONALITY is a MAJOR oversight and shows complete disregard for the Ring user. This is enough for me to switch to another security company. Ring…if you’re listening…Please fix this.

1 year later, Why is this still not a thing! Especially when I hard wire the units…. We need a status indicator light at the minimum.

Agree 100%.
Why would they remove this critical feature???

I spent quite a bit of money on the Ring system to replace an older system. I did the retrofit kit which worked great, got everything installed and noticed there were no lights on my keypad unless I walk up to it. This is completely stupid and pointless. One of the main reasons for a physical keypad (Besides arming and disarming) is to be able to glance at it to see the status. Why would I need to walk all the way over to it to accomplish is? Absolute design fail. Please fix this ASAP. I went back to a 1st gen to get this feature although I ran into two issues with that which I will get to with two other posts to keep things relevant. Please fix 2nd gen Keypad so I can go back to it later. Thanks!!!

100% agree. I’m in the same situation and was able to power the keypads off of my old alarm wiring with a converter. If the keypad has wired power it should be an option to leave the mode light always on. I don’t really want to have to buy a 1st Gen keypad to get this.

Agree 100% I was very surprised after replacing my 1st generation keypad that failed due to it not being able to be plugged in to the power supply continuously. I thought there was something wrong with the keypad since it was not showing the current status of the system. Big design flaw and shortcoming in the 2nd gen keypads. Showing the current status of the system is, or should be, a basic function of the keypad.
