Will the Ring eero work with an existing WiFi setup?

I have an existing WiFi setup with extenders in my home. For the most part my setup works well but it really was setup for working with home computers and smart devices. If I add a eero router to my existing WiFi will it work using only a wireless connection to my existing set up or do I need to have it directly wired to my modem? If it need a wired connection can it be to my router and not the modem? What is the best setup considering I have a MESH WiFi setup, will I need extenders for it as well?
