Video Doorbell 2 causes buzzing at chime
Two days ago I noticed a buzzing noise coming from our doorbell chime. I found that one of the chime strikers was vibrating quite a bit causing the buzzing. The Video Doorbell 2 was working fine. The rear doorbell (just a button) worked but would sound strange if you held down the button. I assumed it was a bad transformer (original to the house, 30 years old) so I ordered a doorbell kit (chime + 16VAC-10VA transformer). Installed the new transformer tonight, turned the power back on, still buzzing. I guess it's the chime? Power off, replaced the chime, power on, still buzzing (but quieter, probably the new chime). Voltage at the chime is ~16VAC. With the Video Doorbell 2 connected, I'm seeing \< 5VAC at the Ring device. With the device disconnected, I'm seeing ~18VAC at the wires and there's no buzzing. I'm assuming there's an internal fault in the device that's causing an issue. It was purchased in October 2019 from Woot as a used device. It appears to have just been an open box because it was flawless and still had all the protective plastic attached. Has anyone had something like this happen?

This worked for me! Thanks for the recommendation. I moved the back door wire to share the front door wire terminal, left the middle wire in its place. Buzzing stopped and back door still rings with a single “dong”, front door works with 2 “dong” sounds.

I have the video doorbell 2 pro. After 2 weeks of flawless operation my mechanical chime started humming. Could see the little piston vibrating when I took off the cover. Read all the comments and watched a few videos. Even ordered the resistors an hour ago. I cut the breaker, reset my wifi and still no luck connecting to my Ring unit or making the vibrating stop. I removed the cover and unscrewed the unit from the wall mount. The insulated red and black doorbell wires were touching but they did not seem to have any exposed wire. Pulled the unit away from the wall, naturally separating the wires. I had not cut power yet to disconnect the wires, but immediately the Ring was back on wifi and the humming in the chime stopped. But it all together, keeping my hard wires as separated as possible, and so far so good.

Hi neighbors. If you hear a buzzing noise of any sort from your Video Doorbell or the internal chime kit in your home, please give the following troubleshooting steps a try: - Make sure your chime kit is compatible with your Doorbell. You can find the compatibility lists in our Help Center [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=chime+kit+compatibility), just click on the article that corresponds to the model of Doorbell you have. An incompatible chime may not function correctly with your Doorbell, and could be the cause of the noise you're hearing. - If you have a Video Doorbell Pro, you will have an In-Home Chime option under the Device Settings tile, which will allow you to select if your chime kit is mechanical or digital. Verify that this setting is correct. - Ensure your transformer meets the power requirements for your specific model of Doorbell. You can review our [Video Doorbells Product Comparison](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004668746-Ring-Video-Doorbells-Product-Comparison) to see what power requirements your Doorbell has so you can check that your transformer is compatible. - If you feel comfortable, check the wiring in your doorbell circuit for any spliced, thinning, or old wiring. These variables could interrupt the doorbell circuit and cause the buzzing noise. If you aren't comfortable reviewing the wiring on your own, I recommend consulting a qualified electrician. If you still hear the buzzing noise after going through the information above, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406) so they can take a deeper look. If you are outside of the US, please visit [here ](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/213608406)to see how to contact support.

I DID NOT want to add the 25-ohm 50-watt resistor. A resistor is a constant useless waste of power like keeping a 50 watt light bulb on 24/7. I tried everything else and below was my only working solution... I disconnected the Front Door wire in my mechanical doorbell and reconnected it to the Back Door screw terminal... ...So the two wires for FRONT and BACK doors are now together under one screw terminal. * This allows continuous 18VAC to power and charge the Ring Doorbell Camera. NO MECHANICAL BELL HUMMING! (Leave the center terminal connected in the Mechanical doorbell) The Back Door Button still works with its traditional single "DONG.g.g..g...g". Oh... also, if Ring is wired with no power coming from the wires, it drains the battery within a day.
