Two factor Identification

When I log into my account at Ring.com from my personal computer, the two factor ID code is sent to our cellphone. If my wife is away from home and has the cellphone, I cannot log in which makes no sense. How can I get the code sent to my email address if I log in via my home computer and to our cellphone if logging in from the cellphone?

I use a web based password manager that can do TOTP and “family” plans. All one of us needs is a browser (or phone app that the service has) to do 2FA. No email address, no text message needed.

I use my own password manager (encrypted Excel file). What is TOTP anyway?
