Transfer Ring Ownership

Hi all,

I’m new to ring so go easy on me. I just moved into a new apartment and the previous tenant left behind two ring video doorbells; one in the front of the home and one in the back.

Can anyone explain how to transfer ownership, if you will? What steps do I need to take to get access?

Would prefer not to have to involve my building manager having to share the former tenants info or play middle man.


Hi @JazzPlayer27. You can find more information on device ownership in our Help Center Article here. If you try to set the Doorbells up in your Ring App by following the steps under Set Up a Device, and you get a message that it’s already registered to another account, the original owners will need to remove it from their account. If you have no way to contact the previous owner, our support team will contact them on your behalf via email.

Make sure you have the latest version of the Ring app to see if you can initiate the device transfer in the app.

When you go through the setup process in the Ring App, follow the prompts to request ownership. If you do not see the option to make a request, and you’re sure you have the latest version of the app, please contact Ring Community Support for help. :slight_smile:
