Strange protocols used by Ring Camera - Bit Torrent and Back Orifice

I have a ring doorbell pro and a Ring Stick Up Cam Elite HD camera (Pet Camera in the kitchen).

I recently installed a security router that analyses traffic and I noticed odd usage from the kitchen camera.

The doorbell has only three items: HTTP Protocol over TLS SSL, Sina Video, PPTV (PPLi e).

But the StickUp Camera also has Back Orifice, Zeroconf, BitTorrent Series.

Is this normal? Could it just be incorrect reporting by the security gateway? Or has the camera been hacked?

My cameras are also registering traffic for Back Orifice, Zeroconf and BitTorrent. I look forward to Ring responding to this thread.

What device is this?? I bought a cheap wifi extender and I would love to know whether it’s transmitting anything to China.

@Mgreed I mate, sorry to bug you, but can you PLEASE tell me what app this is? Thanks,

It looks like the app is Ubiquiti’s UniFi Network App, which is used if you have Ubiquiti Controller for WiFi, etc…

My UDM Pro is also reporting my doorbell is using these protocols, I’m not sure if this is just based on what ports it’s connecting to but I’m thinking of ditching the ring and using the UniFi doorbell just to be safe if no one from Ring can answer what this traffic might be or why it might be misidentified.

Hi @rbegga. This looks to be the normal upload stream, it’s just not being categorized by the app you are using. If you have specific questions about this, I suggest reaching out to our support team.
