Snapshot capture not working

Hi, many of these posts are over 2 years old and none of them really helped my issue. I am based in the UK (setting in the USA seem different) and I have never ever been able to get Snapshot Capture to work. I have been on the Phone everyday this week with Ring support speaking to different Technical Specials who told me me to Reboot, Update Firmware, Reset back to Factory Settings, Adjust timeframes for my Ring doorbell 3 but none of these have helped. The last specialist sent me an E-mail that I could respond to him personally within 24 hours to see if what he recommended worked. Surprise to say after I replied to him 24 hours later to let him know it was still not working he has not replied. So anybody got any ideas or do I just have to pick up the phone again and speak to some other expert that will tell me to change a setting etc. Surely, other people must be having this problem?? Look forward to any suggestions.

Hi @user28389. If you have motion detection disabled, the Snapshot Capture feature will not work. This includes if you have the motion detection disabled within the Modes settings. You can find more information on how to use and edit Modes here. Make sure you have motion detection enabled and adjust the Snapshot Capture interval to your preference. From there, you will see the snapshots within the Event Timeline in the Ring app. Snapshots cannot be viewed on Ring.com.

If you still do not see any snapshots in your Event Timeline after checking the above, please follow up with our support team at one of the numbers available here so they can take a more in-depth look. If you are outside of the US, please visit here to see how to contact support.

Issue seem to be more widespread.
I did an hour of troubleshooting with a community agent on phone. Did a reset of the doorbell, onboarded it back.

Still no luck.

Will go into step2 of the debugging.

Why on earth would snapshots depend on motion detection? The time you want snapshots is when the area the camera is watching is too busy to enable motion alerts, but you still want to be able to see what is going on. If I enabled motion detection the camera would be continuously recording. Snapshots would be perfect.

Note that none of the documentation I have found on. Snapshots documents this limit. You should fix that.

It looks like I am not the only one with this issue: Do snapshots require motion recording?

While that post has some complex work arounds, just fixing snapshot recording so it recorded snapshots when you turn it on is really the correct fix for this bug.

Any plans to fix this?

Hi @Sauron. We do not have information on this being changed. As we value our neighbors’ feedback, we’ve created a Feature Request board. Feel free to add this and any future feature requests there. This will help us organize and share your requests with our teams here, as well as allow other neighbors to comment and add interest, all in one place. Feel free to link that post you make in the Feature Request board here so other neighbors that come to this thread can easily find your feature!
