Ring video door bell 3 motion detection

I bought a ring video doorbell 3 about a week ago and since the start I’m getting a lot of motion notifications even though nothing is there? I’ve tried changing all the settings and even reducing sensitivity down to minimum but it still happens. Unless I’m mistaken it seems to been the sun that is causing the notifications?

Hi @ryanhavenhand. The motion detection on the Doorbell can be fine-tuned by adjusting the settings as well as the placement and positioning of the device itself. Do you mind sharing a screenshot of the Motion Zones you currently have set in the Ring App? I’d be happy to take a peek and see if I can recommend any adjustments that may help improve the motion detection for you. :slight_smile:

@ryanhavenhand Thank you for sharing that screenshot with me. Approximately how high is your Doorbell mounted? The Doorbell should be mounted about 48 inches above the ground for optimal motion detection. It appears to be angled upwards slightly and has a fair amount of the sky and trees in its view which could be throwing off the motion detection. You can read more on the proper positioning for your Doorbell 3 in our Help Center Article here. I would also suggest considering using a Wedge Kit to angle the Doorbell’s view down a bit so it is more focused on the walkway in front of your door as opposed to motions that occur farther out.

Hi thanks for the reply. The doorbell is about 4ft off the ground and I used the side angle wedge so I can see more of my path and drive. You can’t use both wedges together can you?
