Ring stick up camera (3rd gen) in window not recording with motion
New ring stick up camera with battery is in window. The camera will give live feed and when I take it out of window it records with sound, but if I put it in window doesn’t record motion and the setting are all the way up for sensitivity. What am I missing???

My stickup cam battery has lost internet connection/offline. All other camera's are working. Happened 2 hours ago! I get motion notifications and I can review video but I have no internet connection. This is the second issue within a week with the stickup cam battery!

Hi neighbors! First, I'd recommend not pointing your Stick Up Cam directly at glass such as a window, as this will impact the Cam's ability to properly detect motion. This is why you're seeing that it's not recording motion when you are putting it in a window, as the glass is affecting it. I recommend not having the Stick Up Cam facing a window directly. @Chappy For this concern, I actually addressed it in this thread [here](https://community.ring.com/t/offline-but-showing-movement/79016/3). Our team is aware of this concern with devices incorrectly showing as offline and working to resolve it as quickly as they can. In the meantime, you can always reach our support team at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406) if you have any additional questions.

GOld thread but I just found it and am having the exact same problem. You mentioned not pointing the camera through a window but right now I have it sitting literally right next to a regular Ring Indoor Cam looking out the same window. The Indoor cam detects motion past 40 feet away. The Stickup Battery Cam, through the same window, does not detect any motion even when I stand a couple of feet away from it jumping up and down and waving my arms. Does the Stickup Cam use a different type of motion detection that does not work at all through windows or is something wrong with mine?

I have the same set up and it detects motion but wont distinguish between people and vehicles. Additionally, the motion zones don’t work, as it detects any motion. Ring customer support always says its the window, but a quick Google search shows that it happens with outdoor mounted cameras as well. This is really frustrating that they blame everything but the detection software.

GI did find the solution to my issue…but… it’s not really a solution. When you first set up the Stick-Up Cam, during the configuration it asks if you’re powering it with a battery or plugged in. If you select battery it will automatically configure itself in a low-power mode which lowers the motion detection sensitivity and prevents it from working through a window. I changed the configuration to plugged-in and then it started detecting motion through the window without any issues. But, I said it’s not really a solution because configured that way it drains the battery like crazy. I mean from 95% to almost dead in 18 hours. For what it’s worth, I think Ring’s excuse that it’s the window isn’t valid. I have a bunch of $25 cameras from another company and they all work perfectly fine through windows and are much more reliable in identifying people, animals, vehicles, and packages. But that company’s back-end sucks and they are always having outages and privacy issues so I’m using the Ring cams to provide some redundancy, and they do tie in nicely with the Ring alarm. If the Ring cams were as accurate and detected motion more reliably, I’d dump the other company and go all in with Ring.

Hi, have you figured this out at all ? I have the exact same issue. I'm sure its something simple but can't see where I'm going wrong.
