Ring stick up cam

I bought one from target took it home to set it up and it says it’s still registered to previous user? Is there a way to get around this? I just bought it and was looking forward to using it

@Taygates5 ,

Dang, Target sold you a USED Stick-Up cam? The previous person did a initial set-up with it and now is recognized still as the owner. Only that person can release the ‘ownership’ so I highly recommend returning it back to Target and getting a NEW Stick-Up cam.

The ‘ownership’ feature of Ring products is a deterrent to thieves that might want to steal Ring devices such as Doorbells. Without ‘ownership’ released by the previous owner, that device is pretty much just a paperweight.

Hi @Taygates5! As @Boone shared, this will occur when your Ring device had a previous owner. Of course, if this was obtained as new from target, this should not happen. There is a Change of Ownership process that can be completed, in which the previous owner will receive a request to relinquish ownership upon your first setup attempt. If this does not result in you gaining ownership, please reach out to our support team for further assistance. Please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here.
