I have been waiting for a new updated Ring Spotlight camera to be released since 2020. When at the time, I had to replace my original Ring Spotlight cam in favour of the Stick-up cam elite.
Despite the original Spotlight cam being a much more feature rich device than the Stick-up cam elite, I opted for the cheaper Stick-up cam elite as it was the only camera available that had PoE (power over ethernet). I can’t understand why Ring has now released not just one but two new Spotlight cams, (the Spotlight cam plus/pro) neither which have PoE functionality?
PoE offers much better connectivity than Wi-Fi particularly if you have your camera placed outside of the building where the Wi-Fi signal must penetrate thru thick external walls. Also, PoE is by far much a more secure connection protocol than Wi-Fi & less prone to interference in highly populated Wi-Fi areas. I’m not even going to go into the possibilities of Wi-Fi jamming using ridiculously cheap Wi-Fi jamming devices which cannot happen when using PoE devices. Even the new Wi-Fi 6, 6e & 7 protocols (which are also are not supported by the new spotlight cams) are not as reliable or secure as having a PoE connection.
I have two stick-up cams placed externally on my building walls both of which are connected via PoE that I was going to replace today until I discovered that neither of the new Stick-up cams had PoE.
I don’t understand why Ring would produce a cheaper Stick-up cam that supports PoE & the superior more expensive new hardwired Spotlight cam pro does not? Unless a Spotlight Cam Elite is coming further down the road? If this is the case, come on Ring I’ve been waiting patiently for over 3 years. Please, please, PLEASE consider releasing a Ring Spotlight cam Elite with full PoE functionality A.S.A.P.
