ring only wifi ?

I bought the ring door bell and it only works where there is wifi… I thought you could be anywhere and it would work like the television ads.

What am I doing wrong or is this the way it supposed to be ???

Thanks.

Glad you asked @andy-ring! Our devices are wifi enabled and are intended to connect securely to your in home wifi. This allows our devices to communicate to the Ring app on your smart phone, so you can speak, hear, and see visitors at your door. Of course, your mobile device would also need to be connected to cellular data, or wifi, when you are away from home.

If you visit the Ring.com Doorbells page, and select your model, there will be a “tech specs” section towards the bottom of the page that will list out it’s requirements. I hope this helps!

Let me take a shot at this . . .

  1. Your Ring doorbell should be connected to your home wifi

  2. You install the Ring App on your mobile phone, and sign in to your Ring Account

  3. You should then be able to open the Ring App when away from home and see your account and your device, one of which should be your doorbell

Stop - - - if you cannot get through Step 3, then there is an install or account issue

  1. After Step 3 works, you just need to make sure your alterts are set properly in the App, and your phone is allowing the alters, then everything should work.

Hope that helps.

I do not see tech specs anywhere.

It does say my operation (app) is fully functional.

I have a new Samsung S10 plus.

Hi, I see no where talk about internet connection only wifi and I have read the whole thing.

Tried install of app 2 or 3 times but still the same…

Tried going somewhere else and pressed the ring app live and all it does is spin in a circle then says could not connect to device.

Any one else have this problem ?

I contacted the seller of the ring door bell and he said it only works on wifi and is useless out side of the home.

Is he right ?

Hey @andy-ring! Our devices are intended to be mounted securely inside or on the outside of your home, depending on device model, and remain connected to your home wifi. They do require wifi to operate and communicate with our Ring app on your smart phone. Hope this helps!

I think there is a point of confusion here.

  1. The doorbell must be connected to your home wifi

  2. Your phone should be able to communicate with the doorbell no matter where it is, as long as your phone has internet connectivity.

Look at my earlier post above.

Ok, so maybe I do not have something turned on on my cell phone ? Maybe…
