Have good luck with my ring doorbell till the battery went down to 3%, I've got it hardwired so I took it off and charged it up full, now I have it back up and working but it's not holding the charge what is my problem?

Well, I fixed it. I hardwired it and it wouldn't charge and my inside chimes wouldn't work. Short story; the screws on the back plate are not electrically connected to the circuit card where the contact strips are for the doorbell unit. It's possible to put wires under the screws and not have them contact the contact strip that touches the doorbell once it's installed. Fix; 2 small #4 flat washers under the screws and it's fixed !!! I reinstalled the doorbell and the charge light came on. I pushed the button and the inside chimes work ! The 'device health' screen now says that it's 'hardwired'. I'm waiting to see if the charge % goes up...fingers crossed. I feel that this is a DESIGN FLAW and that ring should take appropriate action.

bobbetts, I’m glad you were able to fix your issue, but when you already had everything working fine for you, for 2.5 years and suddenly doesn’t charge anymore, without touching anything, what’s your solution? They changed something on their end. Look how many people have the same issue... this doesn’t make sense...

I agree it doesn’t make sense. Charged up doorbell, connected it, said hardwired until I went out of the app, now back to saying battery. All was perfect before Xmas. Come on Ring take some notice & sort it out. Will certainly not be buying any more Ring products til this is done.

_bobbets, you are a genius!_ I've read every post on this board, and yours WORKS! I was suspicious of my connection between the doorbell unit and the house wiring because I found that I was not getting battery charging AND not able to ring the interior door chime. Both indicating lack of connection to the house. I just installed the two washers and both problems are RESOLVED! Ring has incompetent people doing their part to resolve this problem that is SO prevalent, and yet so easily remedied. Of course there is a defect in design or manufacture of the baseplates for the RING doorbell because the 12 printed pads are supposed to connect to the two screws which provide the connection to house wiring, and they don't. Too bad for users that RING couldn't figure this out!

Same issue that others have reported. Have had the original video doorbell hardwired since December 2018. Have had no issues. App showed 100% or close all the time. I have noticed it dropping over the past 2 months. Then I got the low battery notification. Brought it inside to charge and it would only charge to 93%. Stuck it back outside and it dropped 5% overnight. Brought it in to charge again to see if I could get it to 100% this time and it did get there. Stuck it back outside and it dropped 5% in the past two hours. I don't buy the weather excuse. I'm in the midwest but it's been a much milder winter than last year, when I had zero problems. Ring needs to fix this!!! Its ridiculous that apparently I'm going to have to bring it inside to charge every few days. Not happy!

Yeah don’t bother . They don’t even answer anymore. I’m really started to suspect that this is all Pre planned ! No loyalty at all to clients.

Would have to agree, this issue is being ignored. Same story here, had the Ring doorbell since the Fall of 2018 and now battery is not charging. Dropped to 3% and stopped working. I figured the battery was bad. Ordered a new battery and charged it. Put in the new battery and it is losing charge just like the old one. It is showing the hardwire and heaith is good. Extremely disappointing.

Yup, yet there is no one to answer our complaints , at this point , Let’s do a collective agreement complaint ... and sign it.

Why don't you just call it in. Call customer support. This is only a member to member support forum. It's not Ring customer service. Calling their corporate office would be the best way. I've had plenty of issues taken care of by going to the top. They have already reported this here to those above. Go to those above now.

Done that been there, they have a script ... and last they say it’s cold weather ... so no point of solution.

I've had my ring doorbell with solar plate for a few years with no problems. In January, I got a notification that the battery is low. Ok, so thought it was the season and not getting enough sunlight so charged it. Lasted about 3 weeks and the battery died. Thought that the batteries were toast but came to the forum and found this thread. Hmmm....

My Ring Doorbell 2 has the same problem. It had been charging well(even during very cold winter days) until 2 weeks a go. It is definitely a software/firmware problem.

I talked to support regarding my doorbell (v 1) not staying charged (w/solar sleeve). They had me reset and setup the ring from scratch again. They confirmed that the solar panel was charging (they said they could only see that during an event, not available on app). I put it back on the door at 100%. Less than 24 hours and 6 events later, it's at 93%.

It may be charging, just not enough to outpace the energy draw.

Mine still is not charging this morning. 92%, which reflects usage since I last fully charged the battery from a USB cable.

Extremely unsatisifed customer at the moment. I purchased the Ring Video Doorbell 2 for my parents for Christmas, they have no smart devices in their home and this was my first attempt at getting them onboard. Since they have a lot of random people knocking at their door, I'm worried about their safety and thought this would be great. After reading many reviews I decided to go with Ring as it seemed the most stable, but I was wrong. We installed it just before Christmas 2019, fully charged and hardwired. A few weeks later my father noticed it was no longer sending notifications and the battery had drained. After troubleshooting, we decided to buy a new transformer and upgrade it from 10A to 30A as Ring suggested, a $30+ tax purchase. Its made no difference at all, the battery continues to drain. I've tested all connections, cleaned all contacts, stripped new wires, nothing has fixed the problem. We paid the $50 for the yearly subscription (which I understand used to be $30 just before Christmas), not to mention the cost of the Ring Doorbell itself, and we now have a product which does not work and I cannot return as it is outside the 30 day window. Ring, what do I do now? Stand behind your product, listen to your customers complaints and fix this as you are now selling faulty products.

Yes it's $50 a year now. I did not know that until I installed and went to register it. Everyone I spoke to said they were only paying $30 which I thought wasn't horrible. $50 is steep for a product which doesn't work, which is why I'm very frustrated. My father texts me every day to tell me the battery keeps going down and I don't know what to do.

So I am now dealing with these j\*\*ka\*\*es and they are claiming that the battery will not charge if the temperature is below 36 F. Why the hell are they selling these products in Northern States and Canada where from December to March the temperature is seldom if ever above that temperature. This is insanity and also the battery charged all the way through until early January when it quit charging. Also how all the other products in the market charge with no problem in the cold weather it is only these idiots that are causing a problem. I have demanded they pay me back every penny I have spent on products but I am sure it will only take a lawyer to get me anything and I would have to pay more than that to the lawyer unless a nice lawyer would start a class action suit in Canada.

I still have the same problem with doorbell not charging. When can I expect a new firmware that fixes the problem? Or old firmware!

Same here. Doorbell 2 hardwired and not charging. Had the Doorbell for months and it stated to do this in March.

Neighbors - the solar panel needs a minimum of 4-6 hours of DIRECT sunlight. Feel free to provide photos of your set up and we can assist with each case to ensure this is the proper amount of sun. If you feel you are receiving 4-6 hours of direct sunlight, please check the connections on the back of the device and power cycle the device. Thanks.

Thanks but we're not talking about the solar charger. Everyone having problems is hard wired. Mine is fine now and has been for awhile. It magically "fixed" itself. But when it wasn't working, the Ring app was identifying it as a solar charger. It's no longer identified as such. So maybe that's a clue.

Interesting that the Ring rep mentioned the solar panel even though it has nothing to do with this topic. Almost like the most recent firmware updates caused this charging issue and they're trying to force people to buy the solar panel.
