My Ring Doorbell does not record motion when my iPhone is off or in Airplane mode. I use my iPhone to record videos for work. I generally put it in airplane mode so that my videos are not cutoff if a call comes through. I have noticed that each time I put my phone in airplane mode, Ring does not capture ANY motion or video during this time. There is a lot of motion (cars, people, etc) on my street during these times so I know it should capture something.
Hi @SRC. The Doorbell will capture events regardless of if your phone is or is not connected to wifi. Have you tried testing this by placing your iPhone in airplane mode, and then triggering a test event on the Doorbell? You can walk in front of it or press the button and it should trigger the Doorbell to start recording.
Yes. I have tested this several times. I just finished performing two more tests when I saw this response.
1:16pm - iPhone put into Airplane Mode & performed motions that would generally trigger doorbell & stick cam.
1:17pm - Rang doorbell
1:19pm - Turned off Airplane Mode
When I checked the history, the only recorded item was the doorbell rang. No motions were detected by any camera outside of the doorbell ring. Shouldn’t the system have registered the motion that was happening before the doorbell ring?
@SRC Thanks for letting me know what happened. Have you made sure to close the Ring App completely and reopen it after turning Airplane Mode off? This will ensure the Event History has refreshed. If it’s still happening after doing this, I’d suggest contacting our support team directly on this so they can take a closer look for you.
