Ring Alarm Base station needs reset following power loss

We had a brief (minutes) power outage so the Ring Alarm base station was on internal battery power. When power was restored the base station did not restore connectivity to our home network. The home network was fine for all other devices. The only support ring could offer was to reset the base station using a toothpick! That's all well and good if you are at home but if you are away and your alarm is set then a brief power outage would mean no more alerts over the internet until you get home and reset the device. Obviously if you pay for the protect plus plan then you can have monitoring over 3G until you get home and reset the base station. If you don't then....................You won't know anything about the safety of your home until you return and reset the base station. Surely the purpose of the internal battery is so that the base station continues to function and should auto-connect to the wireless once restored?

I’m having the same issue, clearly this is a common problem. When you purchase a device for wireless connectivity and you’re told by support to just use Ethernet it becomes frustrating. Ring needs to fix this immediately.

I am having the same problem everyone else is having here! We are hardwired thru ethernet so obviously that is not a solution that always works. On this occasion it will not reconnect after a power outage no matter what I do! Incredibly frustrating to realize this system feels like a waste of money at this stage. I feel quite discouraged that no one seems to have a solution for this after so long. DANG!!

You have to reset the base station using the tiny button on it every time your power goes out and it fully loses connection to your router over WiFi, not sure how this applies to ethernet but it might be the same. You then go into the app and "Join Another Network" and follow the steps like normal. This will not remove any of your sensors if you reset the base station either. If you don't reset it, it will not see any WiFi network and also won't manually connect to one. Again, not sure if this method resolves it over ethernet, but worth a try. There needs to be a feature to fix this and have it remember to re-connect to the WIFI address it has saved. Losing power is not uncommon and if we need to hard reset our modems to fix network issues, we shouldn't have to reconnect the base station to our networks every time.

When your [Ring Alarm goes offline](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005323926-What-Happens-When-Your-Ring-Alarm-Goes-Offline) due to power, it will work normally for fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes, the Base Station will continue to monitor your sensors and send alarm signals but will shut off any other features to preserve battery life. I recommend allowing some time for the Base Station to recognize power and switch from battery backup to normal operation, to see if it is a matter of timing. Unplugging and plugging back in can also help. Often times when power is lost, network is too. Having an ethernet connection will ensure this reconnection and operation is optimal. When it comes to [resetting or troubleshooting your Base Station](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040525211-Ring-Alarm-Base-Station) further, it is best to reach out to our support team for a more in-depth look. Seems like the best solution is to plug the base into a UPS. You should also plug your router into a UPS as well as modem. Often times the ISP is still working in a power outage. Even if Wifi is lost at least with a UPS it should reconnect to wifi as you are extending the 15 minute window. At least the alarm and sensors work just no monitoring or app functionality which is mainly what I got it for as I'm self monitoring.
