Possible unauthorized recording

We have noticed now on 2 separate occasions that one of our stick up cams will have the blue indicator light turn on as if the live view or recording is happening. When it is not being used for live view or any sort of recording settings. When we check the logs though there is nothing

I’m not one for believing much in being hacked but this is overly suspicious. Especially considering it is happening in the middle of the night when we are up with our newborn

Do you have Snapshot capture turned on for your device? If yes, then likely that’s what the camera is doing.

Is it supposed to show up as a live view on the timeline?

No it doesn’t show up as a Live View on my timeline.

It doesn’t really show up at all on our timelines and isn’t a consistent thing, the setting has it set to once an hour but it never shows that on our timeline.

Correct, it doesn’t show up in the timeline as a marked event. As you scroll through the timeline they show up.

How do you access the snapshots that have been taken then?

Hi @user13039. As @SolarEclipse mentioned, the images taken by the Snapshot Capture feature will be integrated into your Event Timeline along with the videos taken during motion events and Live View. That way you can scan through a single timeline and get a good overview of what’s happening around your home.

To view a snapshot, follow these instructions:

  • Open your Ring App.
  • Tap the device whose snapshots you wish to view.
  • Tap Live View.
  • Scroll to the left to see previous snapshots.

You can read more about the Snapshot Capture feature in our Help Center Article here.
