If someone walked past my house or if a car or any other type of vehicle goes past my house then I get a motion notification with a video recording but when someone approaches my front gate and walks half way up the path then it senses motion and starts the recording. Why can't it start recording when someone approaches the gate?

Hi @user35292. You might need to adjust the [Motion Zones](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/210243483-Utilizing-Motion-Zones-with-your-Ring-Devices) for your Video Doorbell to better encompass the pathway that visitors to your door take. It's also possible the gate could be obscuring the person enough for the motion to not be detected until they are walking up the path. However, there are various factors that impact motion detection, such as the height and angle of your device as well. You can read a bit more about how to optimize motion detection on your Video Doorbell [here](https://community.ring.com/t/caitlyn-s-guide-to-optimizing-your-doorbell-s-motion-detection/48107). I hope this helps!
