Motion detector reported motion, then immediately went offline. Is there a software fix?

On 2023-06-11 at 09:39 PDT, a few minutes after arming the system and leaving the house, I got an alarm triggered by the hallway motion detector. No front door or back door alarm. I returned to the house, and verified everything was ok. The detector has a view of the hallway, and a fragment of the living room and bedroom, but no view of any window. We have no pets. I looked at the motion detector log, and it reported motion on 2023-06-11 at 01:39, and went offline immediately thereafter. The hours in that time don't match the time of the alarm log, but the minutes are correct, so maybe the detector logs in GMT? The system indicated the detector was still offline, and suggested moving it closer to the range extender. However, it wouldn't come online even when it was touching the extender. I checked the detector batteries with a DVM, while they were still installed, and read a little over 1.5 volts for both, so it wasn't a battery problem. I pulled the batteries, leaving the unit unpowered for 30 minutes, then reinstalled the batteries. The detector immediately came online and reported motion. I'm guessing the microcontroller in the unit crashed, and rebooting it got the unit going again. Assuming this is a software bug, should I install new code (hopefully fixing that bug)? Or should I return the detector (I'm assuming it's still under warranty, 1 month after purchase) and get a new one?

Hi @MgFrobozz. If your Motion Detector fell offline and became unresponsive, double-checking that the [firmware is up-to-date on your Motion Detector](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001174366-Updating-the-Firmware-on-Your-Ring-Alarm-Devices) is a good step to try. We also have this Help Center [page](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/6211660659988-What-to-Do-When-Your-Z-Wave-Device-is-Offline-or-Has-a-Weak-Connection) with other steps to try. If you have tried these steps and are still having the same concern, give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406#callus) for further assistance.
