Missing motion detection at night

Finally after months of the same issue and no resolve i think its time to ditch the ring doorbell for something that i have confidence in and trust.Went onto history again last night and for 5 hours not one motion detection recorded which for my street is ridiculous. The video wired doorbell bell must go into some sort of standby when not continually activating as it picks up everything up till about 1.00amThe one most important time of the night and early hours of the morning it never picks up.Have been in contact with you before and made changes to settings and updates but still no better.Final straw is my neighbours car got damaged outside my house the other night and ring video never picked it up.This is not a new issue as it is well known problem and ring still fail to get it fixed.

@jeffo110 I have the Ring Doorbell 3 & have the same problem. Have you resolved it?@ringdoorbell team It picks up everything during the day, including cars pulling up in front of my house & people walking past my gate. However, it doesn't pick up anything at night, since I bought it last month. A big milk lorry has been pulling up in front of my house at 11:45pm twice a week & the person driving comes to my front door, but it has failed to pick up ANYTHING.@ringdoorbell team. What is the issue? Think I might tweet this & screenshot the lack of reponses on this topic.

Hi neighbors. Your Video Doorbell will record when someone rings the Doorbell or motion is detected, regardless of the time of day. I would recommend verifying that you do not have motion detection disabled in the [Modes ](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036107792-Control-All-of-Your-Ring-Devices-with-Modes) settings or disabled on the device profile page. If you do not see any events in your Event History for a certain period of time, there may not have been any motion events for your Doorbell to detect and record. I’d recommend testing out your Ring device during the hours you believe it is not working by triggering a test motion event. It is also important to make sure you have adjusted the [motion settings](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/210243483-Utilizing-Motion-Zones-with-your-Ring-Devices) based on your preferences. The [placement and positioning](https://community.ring.com/t/caitlyn-s-guide-to-optimizing-your-doorbell-s-motion-detection/48107) of your Doorbell also impacts the motion detection. If there is a wall within your Doorbell's view, this can cause the light from your Doorbell to reflect off the wall and impact motion detection in the rest of your Motion Zones. Everyone's home and environment is different, so it can take some trial and error to find the best combination of settings that works for you. To learn more about how motion detection works, review [this](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022461232-FAQs-Motion-Detection-for-Video-Doorbells) Help Center article.@OPL You're welcome to reach out to us on Twitter @Ring and a member of our support team would be happy to further assist as well. Hi @Caitlyn_Ring, thank you for replying, but this issue only happens at night, as many people in this topic have pointed out. I'm also not sure that you read the detail in my post properly? I advised that movement (people/cars) are detected at all times during the day/light time hours. I receive notifications of this & the motion is also recorded. However, when people or cars come to my door at NIGHT/when it is dark, I do not receive ANY notifications & motion isnt recorded. Why is this? For the record I have already tried adjusting the settings as mentioned above, but to no avail. Please advise.

@OPL Since the Ring Community is a public forum, we aim to provide all applicable general information or troubleshooting steps regarding a topic as the solution will be seen by anyone who visits the thread. The information I shared in my previous reply covers the major factors that will impact motion detection. I would also recommend keeping in mind that at night, motion that occurs farther out from the Doorbell may not be detected as easily during the day due to the lighting condition. However, a visitor at your door should still be detected regardless of it being day or night. If you've reviewed all of the motion settings, made sure the placement and positioning is correct, and verified the Mode settings, try triggering a test motion event at night by walking in front of the camera. If you are still having concerns with motion detection after all this, the next step would be to reach out to our support team. Our support team will be able to assist more closely and review your account details in order to find a resolution that works for you. You can reach our support team at one of the numbers available here, or on Facebook @Ring by sending a private message.
