Indoor Cam

Does anyone know if you can use an Indoor Cam as a motion detector?

Hello @Ethan7 ,

The Ring Indoor Cam has a built in “Passive IR” motion sensor and also uses “Camera-based Motion Detection” (from what the lens visually ‘sees’) to detect motion, which both can be adjusted to produce the sensitivity results you desire. When the camera detects motion according to your settings, that activates/initiates the video recording for up to 2 minutes in duration. Additional subsequent detected motion will start another 2-minute video recording. Using your Ring App, you can also activate a “Live View” for up to 10 minutes in duration.

Through the Ring App, you can have text-type “Notifications” that are ‘pushed’ and sent to your smart-phone whenever it detects motion and starts recording. You can also set it so you hear a brief audible “App Alert Tone” sound from your phone too, with several sound selections available.

The Ring security cameras, such as the Indoor cam, and Ring Video doorbells are part of Ring’s surveillance system, but Ring cameras can not be used to trigger the Ring Alarm system to activate. Only Ring Alarm Contact Sensors or Alarm Motion Sensors can trigger the alarm intruder system.

I hope you find this information helpful.
