How does Ring determine when permits are needed?

When I set up Ring, it told me that I did not need a permit for my area. A false alarm and a $325 bill later says that is wrong. How does Ring determine when a permit is needed? I realize I should have double checked, but then why offer the feature in the first place?

Hi @user19482. Ring will use the nearest jurisdiction to the address you registered Professional Monitoring with to determine if you require an Alarm Permit. If you received an email stating you did not need a permit but did need one for your jurisdiction please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here. If you are outside of the US, please visit here to see how to contact support. They will be able to conduct a more in-depth look into your concern
