How do alarm emergency contacts work in Ireland?

Hi there,

I’m about to buy a Ring Alarm, but I wanted to understand how it works in Ireland. As far as I understand, you’re able to configure certain emergency contacts and when the alarm is tripped, Ring attempts to call these emergency contacts before ringing the police (Guardai in Ireland).

  1. Is there any option to not have any emergency contacts and contact the police right away?
  2. Does ringing the police, fire department and medical department work as expected in Ireland? Do Guardai actually show up?

Thanks!

When setting up Assisted Monitoring for your Ring Alarm, you will be asked to provide the contact details of up to three emergency contacts (this can include you as the owner). These should include trusted family members, friends or neighbors.

Assisted Monitoring is not the same as Professional Monitoring, as professional monitoring service is available only within the U.S. (all 50 states, but not U.S. territories). Check out the article linked above, for more information on Assisted Monitoring.

I’m in Belgium and I have to say the Assisted Monitoring is pretty much useless. I think it’s the same for all of Europe. All it does is “phone a friend” with an automated message that your alarm is going off. It doesn’t call the police or any other security service. From what I can make of it, you (and the trusted friend) could get the same alert for nothing just using the app. I’ll be looking into it closely before renewing my subscription.
