Ring Alarm
Front door requires bypass if open
When leaving the house I will frequently have my front door open while getting ready to go. When trying to arm the Ring alarm it reqests I bypass the front door contact sensor. I thought I would try this and see if the sensor starts working once I closed the door. Sadly it doesn't and remains bypassed. Also it doesn't seem to shaow anywhere in the app it is bypassed. Every other alarm system I have used will allow your entry/exit sensor to be in open state while setting the alarm. If of course you don't close that sensor before arming completes the alarm will trigger. Please offer an ignore option in addition to bypass, so the sensor starts working when the alarm finally sets. Or simply show a warning to close the entry/exit sensor or the alarm will sound after countdown. Also make sure the app clearly shows any bypassed sensors. It is daft forcing me to close the door just to arm the alarm, it should allow you the countdown time to close it.

I'm on day 2 of, "Test" and coming from SimpliSafe to Ring, I stumbled on this discussion because I was curious about what the, "Sensor bypass" was in settings and remembered the alert I received when I opened my door told Alexa to run my routine that turns on the stereo, turns off the kitchen light, and sets Ring to Away. I wanted to see the light go off and the stereo go on, so I had the door open when I alerted Alexa. I typically opened the door and set SimpliSafe to Away, got an alert that the sensor was open and when I closed the door it would arm. So I selected to bypass the contact sensor from the pop-up alert and didn't know I went without my alarm being armed. Garold gave the answer I can easily use myself, i.e., arm before opening the door, whichever way you arm it, Keypad, App, Alexa routine, or Alexa voice! This info was not readily available, but now that I know it, I have recognized it subtly mentioned in other Ring articles. Marley_Ring states this but he's talking about how to re-enable a bypassed sensor. He says, close the door, alarm the system and all will work normally. Marley_Ring didn't seem to exactly understand the question and his, "Solved" answer of a longer exit delay would not work (I think the limit is 3 minutes) if ring was armed in Away when the door was open, no matter how long the delay. It's a funny thing, but there is so much to learn that is not in the Ring Manual, which is mostly just how to install the system... a healthy curiosity helps because a person has to dig and dig and dig. Even simple stuff like in Ring you input your code on the keypad, THEN select the mode, with SimpliSafe it was the opposite. Well, I never expected them to be the same, but I'm just saying.

I also have a problem with this feature, it is very annoying when you already have the door open to have to shut and then set alarm before leaving, just makes the process more complicated than it needs to be. @ring

I’m an new ring user and totally agree with McLovin. Disappointed that Ring haven’t sorted this out yet. It’s an easy fix, surely.

I hate having to say this, but me too. I've just installed my shiny new Gen 2 alarm and couldn't believe that I had to bypass the front door if it was open. I tried pressing the cross instead of tick, but that just cancelled the setting of the alarm. Re entering after the front door bypass did not result in the entry delay being triggered. Sorry @ring, but this is a big #fail.

I really wish I'd known about this before dropping hundereds £££ on this system. Its so dumb and not like at least 3 other brands of alarm I've used previously. Now I have to marshall the kids and their gear into the car or at least outside onto the driveway, SHUT MYSELF INSIDE , arm the alarm, then reopen the door and lock up. Anyone that says "this is common" please name another brand that does this, because I don't know it. I'd also presume they don't have young children, or experienced UK weather. Sure I could use the app after having locked up, but why do I have to? And my wife use the app? No chance. Echoing all the above responses this really needs to be resolved, I'm considering returning for this reason alone
