Discontinued Door View Peephole camera

Before purchasing the Peephole camera I had a standard old fashioned doorbell as well as a knocker and a peephole.

As I now work at home I was discovering just how many mail and delivery services refuse to use a doorbell and instead knock the door, this lead to many missed deliveries as I never heard the knock.

So the Door View camera with it’s knock detection was the perfect solution. It has indeed solved my issue and in the first few weeks of use it was amusing to watch videos of delivery drivers instinctively going to use the knocker, seeing the doorbell where is used to be and still deciding to knock the door rather than push the button.

Unfortunately it now seems that this device with it’s very unique and extremely useful feature has been discontinued and nothing else on the market appears to offer knock sensor.

I feel Ring have definitely missed an opportunity and I worry what will happen when I need to replace my unit.

Hi @Baz_8755. Thank you for sharing your feedback, I’m glad to hear that the Ring Peephole Cam was a perfect fit for you! While the Peephole Cam is no longer being sold, our support team will still support it and the warranty provided at the time of purchase is still honored. You can always reach out to our support team at one of the numbers available here if you have any questions or concerns regarding your Peephole Cam.

Additionally, please feel free to add your feedback and vote on the feature request other neighbors have created asking for the Peephole Cam to be brought back. While we don’t have any information to share on future product releases or updates, the Feature Request board is the best way for us to gather and share feedback with our teams here.

Hi @Caitlyn_Ring ,

I have to second @Baz_8755’s point and concern of the product being discontinued. The Peephole Camera is perfect for apartments and condos and I personally have recommended the Peephole Camera to friends who also loved it. My friend’s was only allowed to install the Peephole Camera at his apartment complex and none of the other Ring doorbells are allowed, even if it’s only adhered to the door.

In addition, none of the other Ring doorbells offer knock detection and this is one of my favorite features of the Peephole Camera. I fail to understand why the Peephole Camera was discontinued. Ring no longer offers a product that is ideal or tailored towards those who live in apartments and condos.

Are there plans to release a new generation of the Ring Peephole Camera to replace the 1st Gen? I would truly love to see this. I also worry about what will happen when it comes time to replace my Peephole Camera and it’s past the warranty period. Most people who walk up to my door knock, they don’t ring the doorbell and the knock detection feature is essential.

Thank you, I hope the Peephole Camera is bought back.

I have had a peephole cam for some time and it has been brilliant. I keep reading posts from people looking to purchase one as they are not able to fit another version.
What was Rings reason for discontinuing a product that customers are showing a real demand for.
For myself I started with a peephole cam, added ring alarm and cameras plus Mesh Wifi to make it work , so far over £100’s spent on Ring products. None of that would have been spent had it not been for the peephole cam.

This is a terrible decision - The peephole camera is perfect and ours just got damaged. I cannot get a replacement?!?!?

They will be able to review the damage and your device’s warranty to determine the best solution. If you are outside of the US, please visit here to see how to contact support.

I absolutely love my peephole camera! Ring please bring it back! There is a need and demand for this product.

Ring/Amazon please bring back the peephole camera. There is nothing to replace it as most apartments and condos wont allow the doorbells. Had i known it would be dc’d i would had bought back ups.
This is a terrible idea. Doorbells are flooding the market but the peephole cam was unique to Ring and clearly there is demand.

This is not good to hear. My peephole camera was also my first ring product. I have since purchased two more Ring devices. All of them are pointless if I can’t replace my peephole camera.

It has recently stopped connecting to Wifi even though my other Ring devices connect just fine. Now I question why I would invest in a security product that will just fail with no suitable replacement available. Probably done with Ring at this point.

Hi neighbors! Our support team is still available to troubleshoot any concerns you have with your Peephole Cam and any warranty it has on it will still be honored. I have also updated the marked solution to include a link to the Feature Request board where other neighbors have asked for the Peephole Cam to be brought back. This is a great place for you to share your feedback and vote on the request.

I agree with you! What the heck were they thinking. When you live in an APARTMENT you don’t own - this was the perfect solution.

This was an unfortunate decision on the part of ring. So many people live in apartments that they do not own. They are not allowed to fasten doorbells to their doors. The peephole doorbell is a perfect solution. It’s especially important for the security of senior citizens to be able to see who is at their door, without having to open it. I love mine and it makes me sad to tell my neighbors that they can’t have one.
You indicate that this topic has been resolved. It hasn’t been resolved for the customers

I think the peephole doorbell was not well advertised, therefore it was not selling as well as they expected. I had never heard of it until I happened to run across it on YouTube. It’s all about sales, I bet if I take this to a apartment complex or condo location it would sell with no problem.

Agreed, I never saw any advertisement for it at all. I was just lucky that it had been released right before I had moved to a new apartment and was in the market for a camera that could see my front door–the previous apartment I was in had a large window above the door where I could place a security camera without needing to drill any holes–and happened upon the Peephole camera from Ring. It was the perfect solution.

When I talk to other people who have security cameras and/or video doorbells, they were all surprised that such a product existed. Seems to me very little effort was put into any sort of advertising for it.

OMG… market it in NYC. It is the PERFECT doorbell camera for NYC apartments.

Hi Everyone please begin deferring your friends/residents/etc to Brinno and the like (JeaTone 9, Digitharbor, Remo+, Lockly Vision.)
Ring no longer considers Apartment and Condo dwellers as viable customers, these others will pick up the slack…
Great decision Ring, lost revenue for sure.
