Connect VD3 direct to transformer without pre-existing bell

The instructions do not require a resistor like it needed for the 1st Gen VD?

The Ring Video Doorbell "2nd Gen / 2020 Release", Ring Video Doorbell 3, and Ring Video Doorbell "3 Plus" all do not need the resistor. And a transformer like this can be directly connected to them: [https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2](https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2)The older models of Ring Video Doorbell 1st Gen and Ring Video Doorbell 2 (discontinued) do require a 50 watt 25 Ohm wirewound resistor for without a pre-existing house bell chime.[https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/wirewound-resistor](https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/wirewound-resistor):)

Its a boon to not have to mess around with soldering. :smiley:Oh @MM6 although this doesn't change the fact that **your Ring Video Doorbell 3 does NOT need a resistor** , I wanted to make **a correction** to what I wrote in my initial answer. In case someone else has the **Ring Video Doorbell "2nd Generation/2020 Release" I incorrectly wrote it too doesn't need a resistor, when actually it does**. So, my corrected answer should read:Without a pre-existing house bell chime, Yes [@MM6](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/110778) , you are correct. The Ring Video Doorbell "2nd Gen / 2020 Release", Ring Video Doorbell 3, and Ring Video Doorbell "3 Plus" all do not need the resistor. And a transformer like this can be directly connected to them: [https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2](https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2)The older models of Ring Video Doorbell 1st Gen, and the Ring Video Doorbell 2 (discontinued), and **_even the new Ring Video Doorbell "2nd Gen/2020 Release"_ ** do require a 50 watt 25 Ohm wirewound resistor for without a pre-existing house bell chime.**ADDED:****[https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360044324232-How-to-Connect-Your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2nd-generation-directly-to-a-low-voltage-transformer-without-a-pre-existing-doorbell](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360044324232-How-to-Connect-Your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2nd-generation-directly-to-a-low-voltage-transformer-without-a-pre-existing-doorbell)**[https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/wirewound-resistor](https://ring.com/collections/all-products/products/wirewound-resistor)Sorry about the initial mistake about the Doorbell "2nd Gen/2020 Release" and I hope I didn't confuse any owners of this doorbell model. :)
