I left my ring doorbell for the new owners when I sold my house. How can I get off the account so they can set it up?

Hello @GJ33 ,

In order for the new house owners to use the Ring Doorbell that you left behind, you need to relinquish your “Ownership” of that Doorbell, or else the new house owners will not be able to setup this Doorbell on their Ring account.

So you, still as the current Ring owner, need to log onto your Ring App and:

  • Tap Main Menu (the 3 horizontal line icon, upper-left-corner of dashboard).
  • Tap Devices.
  • Select the device/doorbell you wish to remove.
  • Tap Device Settings (Gear shaped icon).
  • Tap General Settings.
  • Tap Remove This Device.

Once removed, your device’s video recordings and Event History will also be removed. Be sure to download any stored videos that you may want to keep before removing your ‘ownership’ on the device. If you have other Ring devices that you are keeping and taking with you, one of the methods that is easy for later is to also remove your “Ownership” on these devices too, since they are linked to that account/location. This way it easy for you to gift or sell those devices to another, or use them yourself and set them back up at your new residence/location.

Also, if you currently have a Ring Protection Plan subscription and this Ring Video Doorbell was the only Ring Device you owned, you can also cancel your subscription online to get a pro-rated refund on the remaining balance:
