That is definitely a too dark of a view, @Williegunner! If disabling Color Night Vision did not help with this, try using a flashlight as a test. While it is dark, and during a live view, please illuminate the area and the Camera to see if night vision will adjust during this time.
If this does not help, please attempt a reset on the Camera by holding the setup button for 20 seconds. Once complete, test night vision again with Color Night Vision disabled and see if there is any difference when adding artificial light. Feel free to let us know how this goes!
