I have finally gotten around to adding Aux Lighting to my current WIRED spotlight camera. My Ring spotlight cameras are 3 years old. Previously, generic motion lights were installed in this location so I know for sure I have the proper wiring to these locations with constant power. As described in the installation instructions for adding Aux Lighting, one is to connect the RED wire from the camera to the black/load side of Aux Lighting and all white/neutrals together. With this connection when motion is detected, aux lights activate along with the Ring Camera’s LED lights. However, only the Ring’s LED lights activate with motion detection. I have tried several different Aux lighting devices along with many different LED bulbs and incandescent lights in the event that something is not compatible with LED technology. Load has never exceeded 150 watts. Through further troubleshooting, I have disconnected the red wire and confirmed that the red wire is constantly LIVE/Hot, even when the Ring’s LED/lights are off. It should only have voltage when lights are activated via the app/motion at night, signifying a problem with the Ring device (Although customer support doesn’t believe this to be true). When connected to any Aux Lighting fixture power is still hot. It is the instant a light bulb is inserted into the fixture that the RED wire doesn’t have any voltage. Lastly, I was able to confirm for a split second that my Aux Lighting does in deed come on and instantly shut off when power is restored to the Ring (Ring’s LED lights stay lit).
