All of a sudden my Ring Floodlight light is sensitive

I figured one thing out, at least on my end.
My light sensitivity settings are on the lowest the light works correctly (only in live mode).
Lights do Not go on when cars drive by in Live Mode , but do go on when motion in driveway. The way it used to always work on lowest sensitivity for years.
As soon as I exit live mode and close the app it goes back to turning on for all movement the camera sees.
October update messed them all up.

Ring, PLEASE FIX THE ISSUE THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS THIS HAS GONE ON FOR OVER A MONTH NOW.

I just installed my ring floodlight cam and I am extremely unhappy with this lighting issue!!! No matter what I do like all other users the damn light keeps coming on due to passing cars well outside of my lighting zone. Even with it set as low as it goes it still comes on. Kicker is when I pull in my driveway the light doesn’t come on until I get out of the car. Totally ridiculous and useless!!! This is my first ring product and if this is not fixed in short order I will be returning this completely useless device!!! Hey ring fix your product or you will lose my business and many others!!!

Same problem here. Started about the same time as everyone else’s. Customer service is of no help and basically told me to shut the lights off and turn the sensitivity way down. What’s the point in having the camera is it doesn’t pick up?
They also told me to change the position of my camera. I tried explaining it is in the position we want and customer service basically said oh well. I’m going to call into my local news channel and see if they can get involved. Ring is a huge company and this should not be happening.

Floodlight light
(Only Works Correctly in Live Mode Now I discovered)
October update destroyed a perfectly calibrated device straight out of the box.
Light on and off all night long since October with light setting on lowest sensitivity.

Hey, neighbors. Changes were made to the way the lights trigger on the Floodlight Cam so that they will come on with every motion event. This is to help prevent missed events for the lights and to ensure there is proper lighting for your video. We appreciate your feedback in regards to this and will ensure it is shared with our teams here. You can learn more about the expected behavior of your lights with your Floodlight Cam in our Help Center article here, which has been updated to reflect this change.

What an absolutely ridiculous change to a flood light that worked perfect for years before the October update changed what we paid for.
This change is not what WE ALL Purchased.
Furious and unacceptable.
So NOW if a CRIME happens in the street in the daytime the camera will pick up NOTHING because we have to change our motions zones so the light doesn’t go on and off all night long with the change ring has made to the light settings actually working and what we bought.
Horrible job Amazon.

That’s ridiculous!!! Does Ring think we sit and stare at the Ring App from sunset to sunrise? And No, the lights coming on when it’s a car passing by in the street does NOT help see the vehicle. It works infinitely better when it’s only the infrared camera recording without the lights on. This is such BS. I’m done with Ring. Whoever thought this ridiculous change was a good idea should be fired. I paid a fortune to buy the Floodlight Cam and a bigger fortune to have it installed two years ago. It worked beautifully until October. WE DO NOT WANT EVERY LITTLE GNAT AT THE END OF OUR DRIVEWAY TO TRIGGER THE LIGHTS. We want the lights to come on in the clearly now non-functional Motion Zone for Lights. Time to start shopping for a new floodlight security camera and it will NOT be a Ring device!

I’m also reporting Ring to the Better Business Bureau and will be using my “word of mouth” option to tell my friends to take their money elsewhere.

Total BS. The developers need to push a simple update to the app so users can turn this feature off. Why in the world would I want my lights coming on all night with passing vehicles?

Will not be recommending ring anymore.
Every time that light goes on all night long it reminds me to get something else and not renew subscription.
There will be a breaking point and ring will lose me as a customer if the light setting change is not reversed.
Light going on with all motion is beyond unacceptable.
Neighbor across the street has a floodlight also and light is being triggered by everything, so NOW my light is triggered by the shadows from his light when somebody walks on the sidewalk across the street.
Disgusted with ring and Amazon.

Such a poor and unprofessional response from ring, basically telling us yes we changed the way your hardware works after all these years so deal with it. I now have no faith in ring what so ever. They can’t even release a simple update to allow users to turn this garbage feature off.

Then why is there still an option in the app to control your light motion zones and your camera motion zones why not have just one control it’s now just one feature? Why wouldn’t you have an updated app with one control, if we can no longer use them separately. I don’t want my neighbors being blinded each time a car drives by although I want it to have the vehicle documented. This is a sorry excuse after a month of countless customer complaints and many hours trying to fix your problem on our own. If this is intentional why wouldn’t you announced it a month ago instead telling everyone to here try this, try that?
If like you stated for better video quality the issue with this entire statement is that at night the video is better when the light is off, video at night areas that aren’t directly illuminated by the light become very dark indistinguishable. So basically your telling countless once happy content customers now you offer your product that takes worthless video at night (if the object isn’t directly under the light itself) and a motion light that doesn’t work the way it was intended. Why would any paying customers be happy with this trash? I think the only thing that you can say you’ve achieved is destroying your company, like many others unless fixed I’ll be looking for a replacement. Here’s a Tip: if it’s not broken don’t mess with it!

ripping this p.o.s. out of the wall if that’s what you consider a “solution” to this problem. ring needs to refund the cost of the device which does not perform as advertised when it was purchased. shameful

Exactly, if the motion is not directly under the light or 30 ft or less you can’t even see it with the light going on and off for all motion now after they changed the way the flood light operates in October 2021.
Motion passed that distance is too dark with light on.
If it’s not reversed they’re losing me as a customer.
It used to work perfect.

This needs to be escalated to social media.
How they have changed it or the last video of removal of device from wall. The fast way.
$800 in devices Plus $100 for yearly plan down the drain.
That’s how annoying this light is now since the October 2021 update changed the way the lights operate, Coming on with all motion all night long Blinding the cars driving down the street.
The way it used to work, lights went on when someone got close to the house within 30ft or less on lowest light setting now comes on with everything that moves past 30 ft.
Motion past 30 ft is not visible with light on. It’s clearer with the infrared only. Images get darker past 30 ft and the light is useless.
I lived without RIng devices before and I’ll do it again.
Removing auto pay payment method from ring account now.
If they reverse the October floodlight lights ridiculous and unacceptable light coming on constantly update, I’ll put it back and keep ring devices and service.

Thank you for your post. I’d been meaning to point out that the app STILL has separate settings: one for motion, one for the light motion sensor. Very, very different functions. Since they’ve been effectively been rendered useless by Ring, WHY ARE THEY STILL ON THE APP???

I’m so disgusted with Ring right now. I really hate this pathetic “customer [lack of] service” to what is a serious issue to YOUR customers.

The light show has begun and wearing the lights out on top of it.
2 different settings correct for light and motion.
The people who read the instructions are being penalized for the people who did not or take the time to dial in the 2 different settings for motion and light. It took me numerous times to get the settings perfect and it worked perfect for over a year. It only went on with sidewalk or driveway motion, not every car driving by. Now it goes on for everything.
My lights are not directly pointed at the street but they are a blinding distraction for all cars driving by.
Not good Amazon and Ring.
It’s a potential Liability to me for distracting drivers.
I can see it happening with the way people are these days.
If people choose to distract drivers by putting light sensitivity settings at Max/ full distance, that’s on them.
Don’t force me to do it with the change you made to the floodlights light settings.
Please undo what you have done to the floodlights light settings Ring.

Since the lack of response here. I reached out to customer support and explained everything. The customer service rep said that she was going to send a request to the tech department to change it back to the way it was originally intended to be, but couldn’t give me a timeframe to when this would happen nor will we be informed in anyway. I guess we are to lookout for updates to the app. Hopefully sooner than later.

@user170

I hope you’re right, but honestly I won’t hold my breath. This issue has been going on almost TWO MONTHS now. All we’ve gotten from Ring so far is patronizing dreck. Seems that something that was so easily and quickly undone could have been just as easily and quickly switched back. It’s not like we’re asking them to invent the wheel from scratch.

Thanks for the update.

Floodlight Light Still Needlessly Blinding Drivers over and over again with everything that moves.
12/01/21
We All have Zero Control of adjusting the Light Settings after Amazon and Ring took away our ability to adjust light sensitivity/ distance in mid-october. The app says we do but it doesn’t work anymore.
Blinding Drivers for Over a month now.
