Alexa Greetings vs Quick Replies

Note: These features are currently slow rolling, we appreciate your patience while we work to get them to all our neighbors!

We get it, sometimes you’re busy and not always available to answer your Doorbell events. To help, we have added two awesome Doorbell features that will greet your visitors for you! You can choose between Alexa Greetings and Quick Replies in the Ring app Smart Responses section. Below we have highlighted features details for both to help you decide which one is best for your setup. Note: Currently, you can not have both features on at once.

Alexa Greetings
Have Alexa greet visitors or take messages for you or provide instructions to your delivery person on where to put packages.

  • How It Works
    • Alexa Greetings is a feature specific to the Ring Video Doorbell Pro that allows Alexa to greet visitors, take messages and give specific instructions on where to leave packages, all while recording the exchange via the Ring Video Doorbell Pro’s camera. These interactions will be saved as a video on your Event History Timeline in the Ring app, similar to other motion or Doorbell events.
  • Compatible Doorbells
    • Ring Video Doorbell Pro in the US only
  • Protect Plan Requirements
    • Yes, a Ring Protect Basic or Ring Protect Plus plan is required for you to use Alexa Greetings with your Doorbell.
  • Adding it to Your Device
    • Open the main menu in the top left corner of your Ring app.
    • Select Devices.
    • Select your Ring Video Doorbell Pro.
    • Open Smart Responses.
    • Toggle on Alexa Greetings and go through the setup flow.
    • Now you are all set to have your Ring Video Doorbell Pro interact with your visitors!

Quick Replies
Select from preset Quick Replies responses to save yourself time and have your Doorbell ask visitors to leave a message for you.

  • How It Works
    • Quick Replies is like an answering machine for your door. If you’re unavailable when a visitor dings your Ring Doorbell, it will state a previously selected response and record their response in a video if you have a Protect Plan for your device. Note: This is currently only available in the US and Canada.
  • Compatible Doorbells
    • Video Doorbell
    • Video Doorbell (2020 Release)
    • Video Doorbell 2
    • Video Doorbell 3
    • Video Doorbell 3 Plus
    • Video Doorbell Pro
    • Video Doorbell Elite
    • Peephole Cam
  • Protect Plan Requirements
    • No, you do not need a Protect Plan to have your doorbell use Quick Replies messages. However, you will need a Protect Plan for your doorbell to record these interactions in a video to view later.
  • Adding it to Your Device
    • Open the main menu in the top left corner of your Ring app.
    • Select Devices.
    • Select the Doorbell you would like to turn on Alexa Greetings for.
    • Open Smart Responses.
    • Select Smart Assistant.
    • Toggle on Quick Replies and go through the setup flow.
    • Now you are all set to have your Doorbell answer for you!

Any chance the Alexa Greetings will be rolled out to the Doorbell 3 Plus too? Those of us who purchased this model paid about the same price as the Pro for the premium features.

Yeah I’d also like to know if/when this will be rolled out to the UK?

Hi neighbors! Regarding when this will be rolled out to the UK, I do not have a date at this time. Thank you for your interest in this feature, I will share it with the team!

Hi Caitlyn, perhaps the same answer, but any idea when/if this feature will be available in Canada?

Thanks

It sounds like the Alexa Greetings are only being rolled out to the Pro though. Quick Replies are being rolled out to more devices.

There is no smart response button in my ring app yet I’m in us and using ring doorbell pro with Bhl 2 starting and I have a basic protect plant

@Caitlyn_Ring
@Riley_Ring

Canada is named in the original post.
What sort of time line should we expect for the slow roll out?

Hi neighbors! As the original post mentions, Alexa Greetings will be slow rolling out to the US only while Quick Replies will be slow rolling out to the US and Canada only. We do not have any specific timeline we can share on exactly when you will receive these features, or when either of these features will be available in other regions, but we appreciate your feedback!

I just gained access to quick replies, but I don’t see the option for Alexa greetings- should I have both options, or is Alexa greetings rolling out later? I have a pro, basic plan, BHL3 serial number.
Thanks!

Is it possible to change the volume of the quick replies? It sounds so distorted you can’t even understand it.

Please release Alexa greetings in Canada.

Both Alexa Greetings and Quick Replies show up for me and I have enabled them but I’ve tried my Doorbell Pro numerous times and have yet to hear it say anything. I verified that I could talk through it so the speaker is okay. Is anyone else having this issue?

My Smart responses quick replies appeared yesterday in Canada.
Working fine on my Ring elite
thank you !
Hoping to see the Alexa greetings in Canada

Hi there, @cubby61. Neighbors are currently unable to use both the Alexa Greetings and Quick Replies features at once. Please try only enabling one of the features, and testing it out to see which one will work best for you. Feel free to let us know how this goes!

I have doorbell pro with protection plus plan. When used quick reply feature, it didn’t record the interaction nor the message left by the ringer

Hi there, @Chutieu! It sounds like you are doing everything correctly. Did the entire event not record, or just the quick replies message feature did not work as intended? Try testing an event with the quick reply enabled yourself, to see if you can confirm that it is working as it should. Please also consider wifi connection variables, as this is important for event recordings and audio in general. Feel free to check out our Community post about RSSI and improving wifi connection. I hope this helps!

I’m just confused to why it matters if your in the USA or the UK to use this feature?

Yeah. Why not implement it everywhere? :frowning:
