Recently purchased Solar Changer for Doorbell 2 not working
hardwired-battery-video-doorbell

Hi, I've recently purchased the Solar Changer for Doorbell 2 through the AU Ring store. The doorbell doesn't detect the solar panel even though there is direct sunlight on the solar panel. I have checked that the screws are tighten for the solar connector to the doorbell.

Hey @Kurusawa. We recently pushed an app update that fixed an error message in the app that displayed the Ring Solar Charger was needing you to still add one to extend your battery life. If you have the most up to date app and your Device Health page is still asking you to add a solar panel, try removing the Solar Charger from the set up, removing the Doorbell from your account, and then re-setting up the Doorbell and the Solar Charger physically and in the app. Let me know how this goes! :)

Hi @Chelsea\_Ring, I noticed there is a small crack on the solar cell. The outside plastic is not damaged.

@Kurusawa Coupled with this knowledge, does the solar panel show as connected and helping get the battery level stable over time now, or is it still not working? To see if you can get the device replaced for a physical concern, or if it's still not showing as connected, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406). Hi @Chelsea\_Ring I managed to get it to show "Connected" only when the battery is below 90%. Then it slowly charges the battery. Due to the location of the doorbell, it can only charge about 2% a day and the usage on average is 2% a day. What I want to know if there is a limitation on when the solar charger will start charging the battery.

@Kurusawa Thanks for getting back to me! I'm glad it is working as it should, which the way you described is by design. Since the solar panel can provide about a 10% trickle charge a day, it can only charge it when it is available for the trickle charge, which happens when it's at 90%. From there, it will charge up the battery with how much "power" it got, which you found to be about 2%, which works since that's about what your usage is! Glad it's working as it should for you. :)

Hi @Chelsea\_Ring, is it possible to request for the charging to start below 95% or higher? My doorbell only get about 3hrs of sunlight so it charges about 2% max. The daily usage is about 2% so it will never keep the battery fully charged. It should be stated in the faq or user guide that charging only starts when battery is at certain level ie below 90%. I was under the impression that it would charge as soon as it drops below 100%. It would save me making this thread and spend countless hours trying to figure out what is causing the issue.
