Ring Video Doorbell
Plastic covering doorbell camera
The protective plastic covering the camera portion of the doorbell is cracked and chipped away which is distorting all the videos. How can I remove the rest of the film without damaging it. See attached pic.

Thanks for your reply. I believe that is the protective film. I didn’t install the doorbell, I didn’t realize that it was still on there until recently. I tried the rubbing alcohol but it really didn’t budge it. I’m guessing because it’s been on there so long.

I accidentally removed the film and it’s very sticky underneath. Is this normal? I hope I didn’t take it off incorrectly and was supposed to leave it on?!?

Hi neighbors! As @bemak187 suggested, you can use some rubbing alcohol to try and carefully remove the protective film or any dirt or debris on the Doorbell's lens, but the protective film is meant to be removed at the time of installation. If you're not able to get it off or there's any permanent damage to the lens, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406) so they can look into this further with you. If you are outside of the US, please visit [here ](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/213608406)to see how to contact support.

CI have the same issue. To be clear this **isn't** the protective film that ships with new products, it's a plastic layer bonded to the screen. Seems like it deteriorates in normal use after around 3 years. From the number of posts on this forum it's obviously a known issue. I just called Ring support and standard policy is to replace if under warranty and give discount codes for customers to buy new doorbells if outside of warranty. Bit disappointing from a sustainability perspective that Ring encourages uses to trash their 3 year old devices and buy new ones just because of a thin layer of plastic - all the electronics are still functioning. But I guess it helps sales of new devices? No recycle option was offered.

UPeeling lens is so frustrating. I previously discussed on this site about my third Ring 2 door bell with same problem. 2 were replaced by Ring but my third, customer service stated they cannot replace it because warranty has expired. For gosh ( clean language here) sakes every 2 years I would need to replace it. Someone needs to address this to resolve. Hey everybody who has this issue needs to band together and fight.

My customer support guy gave me the very clever response that he couldn't see the plastic layer that had come off in the photo I sent, so he couldn't help me. I tried to say that it's very difficult to photograph a non existing plastic layer, but he referred me to the software team.

@atrobinson67 Hard to tell from the picture but is that the film that was on it when you took it out of the box? If so that isn't designed to be left on and should be removed at time of install. You might get it off by carefully using some rubbing alcohol or similar but need to be done carefully.
