Night vision kinda sux

I recently bought a ring doorbell 3 second hand. I've set up my device and account successfully and stuff but the night vision is reeeeally dark. What have I done wrong? Could the placement have anything to do with it? Also it points down my driveway but doesn't detect me until im standing directly infront of it.
