New Floodlight Cam Plus has terrible mounting plate
I've been installing Floodlight Cams for two years now, and the new plastic mounting plate is awful. It warps when tightening the center screw, which is the only option to mount it now. The metal mounting plate was much stronger and provided several holes with which to mount it to different types of electrical boxes. It is impossible to mount it flush to an existing box such as this one. The old version was a 10 minute install. Now, I need to go and replace the perfectly fine electrical box with a new one that will work with this very limited new plastic plate. Very upset and disappointed in the new, cheaper mounting system.

@StarrsRidge Yeah, they suck. I have two older floodlight cameras that have the metal bracket. I wanted two more floodlights, they came with the plastic ones. Luckily the one that mounted to a metal box worked. But I found it dumb that there is only the center screw on the plate to mount the bracket on. On my other one, there was no box. Just wires coming out of a hole. For this, I drilled out four holes in the plastic bracket first, then screwed it on the wall. Luckily, there is just enough room for the wire nuts in between the camera and the bracket. I thought the new cameras would be better than the old, but they are not, they are not made to the same standards as the old ones. I like Ring products, but was pretty disappointed in the quality of the new floodlight cameras. For example, you can't screw the lights down to hold their position like on the old ones. Hopefully they stay put and don't droop over time.

I have the same problem, once the metal bracket is installed, the screws stick out and the mounting plate will not sit flush to the junction box. I even tried to cut out some of the foam where the screws go and still no good. My only solution is to caulk the hell out of the back of the mounting plate or take a dremel and ream out the plastic screw supports so the metal bracket and screws get recessed into the junction box. Bad design on Ring. The old metal mounting bracket would probably work much better.

DI found a solution that works. If your box has inner mounting screw holes use those. I still have the tiniest of gaps in the bottom but it’s way better. The screws will mount in the open space in the top and in the space for the strap in the bottom giving a much better fit. I can only post one pic to this reply, so can’t show the full thing. Will try and post in other replies later.

Similarly disappointed. Watched several videos that showed no junction box needed before purchase. The latest has very different mounting requiring junction box. This makes it stick out horribly not to mention single center mounting. Big step back!

I just installed one yesterday and couldn't believe how far the quality has gone down. Not only are they entirely plastic now but you are exactly right- the mounting plate is pure junk. Having one screw in the center and then making it out of plastic was a terrible move. I don't see these lasting long as plastic that is exposed to the elements can get brittle. Ring probably knows the year warranty will be up by the time these things start breaking though.

Agreed that this is extremely disappointing! Last year, Ring sent me a replacement floodlight cam for an older version that I was having problems with. When I saw the new plastic bracket, I knew it would not last in the desert sun. Plus, it was clear that it would not easily fit into my light junction box like the old one did. I had no idea how I would have installed the new one, and I didn't want to spend a couple weeks trying to figure it out. So, I called Ring and had them send me a "refurbished" floodlight cam of the old version. I also told them to report my feedback about cheap plastic mount and asked them to return to the old metal mount. They should have anticipated (or maybe they should have cared) that customers would want to easily replace old floodlight cams. Not sure what I will do when I need to replace the two that I have now. I hope that Ring goes back to their old mount. Or another company makes a comparable product. As much, as I would like for all my security cameras to work together, I will not buy the new floodlight cams in their current state/low quality.
