Amazon will charge monthly fee to use Alexa?

I heard that Amazon will charge a monthly fee to use Alexa. Is this true? If this is true, I'll just have to cancel my RING and get a whole new home based camera system. Alexa is my doorbell ringer. I'll then have to use cameras linked to a small pc and hard-drive system to my router. No monthly fee to Ring, yet full access to that hard drive, anywhere.
