Alarm Feature Request

Update March 16, 2020: Attention neighbors! You may have noticed this thread no longer accepts new comments. No worries- as an exciting new part of the Community, we've created a Feature Request board. Feel free to share any future feature requests there. This will help us to organize and share your requests with our team, as well as allow other neighbors to comment and add interest, all in one place. Thank you! Hi neighbors! At Ring, we take feedback and feature request very seriously. That's why we're creating this special post, where you can share any wish list items you'd like to go with your current Ring device. We'll keep this post pinned to the top of the Alarm board so you can easily access it. Be sure to do a quick search and see if your item is already on the list to avoid duplicates. If it is, go ahead and give it a 'kudo' so we know that is what you want too! Please note, that anything you disclose to us by commenting on this post will be the property of Ring. Please see our [Terms of Service](https://shop.ring.com/pages/terms) for more information. We look forward to hearing your feature requests! **Update February 12, 2020: ** Hi neighbors! We are working on updating this thread to be a bit more organized. Therefore, we have turned off the ability to comment for now. Stay tuned for an exciting new part of the Community, coming soon :)

To better utilize the Stick Up Camera indoors, I want the Stick Up cam to enable motion detection/recording when the Ring Alarm is in Away/Armed mode.

I agree 100%. I use the camera indoors and also have the alarm system. I hope I’m not missing something, but I think it’s a little ridiculous that I cannot disable the camera alerts in “home” or “disarmed” alarm mode. If there’s a way to do that then I haven’t found it :/

Being able to enable and disable motion recording based on alarm mode would be very helpful. I would like to place Ring cameras in several high traffic areas inside and outside the house, and for privacy reasons, only want them to record and notify motion when the alarm is set to away and no one is supposed to be there.

The ability to use interior cameras as motion detectors would be great.

This would be a great feature. I bet there are a ton of users out there that would like to only use the motion recording feature on their Stick Up Cams when their alarms are armed in Away mode. Please add this feature! Thanks!

    1) The ability to turn on and off "arming" sounds and/or add a third mode (home...away...night). We have "home" set to arm immediatly right now so we can arm it and the sound doesnt wake anyone sleeping, however, when we leave and the kids are home sleeping, we cannot arm from the panel and need to do it remotly. 2) Integration with Smart Things...I want to be able to have lights turn on in the event of an alarm, things turn off for smoke/CO alarms etc.

I agree! I leave before my husband and to keep from waking him, we have our “home” mode set to 0 second delay. But the down side is remembering to do it after I leave (I forgot time to time)

This ... so many times this. Why is this not implemented yet, Ring?

I will have to agree. Need to have the option to turn off the arming sound. This is very annoying when 1 member of the family have to leave earlier and wake up everyone else with the arming sound. Customer service had told me to just turn the sound to a lower level. That is not and option as I need to ear if door get open by my children. So please add this option ASAP.

I had ADT before ring and the keypad would always show the status of the alarm system and whether or not it was armed. When you live in a hose with multiple people it’s important to know what the status is. With the ring keypad, however, no lights are visible so I can’t tell whether or not I can open a door without triggering the alarm. This is very inconvenient. Also with ADT when I opened a door I could immediately tell from the continuous beep from the keypad that I had better enter my code or the alarm would sound. I would also simultaneously know this from my other keypads. With the ring keypad however there is no sound. Third with ADT when the alarm was not armed and somebody opened the door all the keypads would make an alert beep. Not so with Ring alarm. Only the base station gives the alert. This is no good if I am upstairs and the base station is downstairs. I had hoped that the upstairs ring chime would have sisnaled the alerts but no. Neither does the remote siren. I don’t understand in this day and age why all these features are not programmable by the user? The lack of these lights, and alerts makes the Ring alarm system not as good as the ADT system. Please change this. I will be submitting this review to Amazon and other sites. Very disappointed.

It’s seems that I was incorrect on some items. One that there was no sound when door was opened in away mode. There is. As to no lights indicating the status of the alarm is partially incorrect. It seems that there is both a motion and light sensor controlling the lights on the keypad. If you are too far away no lights appear. On that point I am correct. If you are moving nearby the unit the alarm status light will turn on and so will the keypad but only if there is low light or you use your hand to obstruct it. So lights will turn on if you are close and in non Battery saving mode. None the less having a alarm status light on all the time would be a desirable selectable feature as far as I am concerned.

Did you do any research before buying your Ring system? Sounds like you bought the car before the test drive and are now complaining about the horsepower.

This is a feature request thread. That's the whole point—requesting features the Alarm doesn't currently have. You didn't specify who you were replying to (luckily) and there are quite a few different people who posted in this thread, but your comment borders on being inappropriate, regardless of who it was directed at. I'd encourage you to maybe reconsider how you behave in public forums, as not everyone can do everything to your liking. Active participation is welcome, but coming to just insult random community members requesting Alarm features is unnecessary and not productive. I don't work for Ring, so these views are my own.

It would be nice to have the panel more updated with a screen. Once someone rings the doorbell then the doorbell camera will show you instantly whos at the door. Vivint already has this and it was very useful. With Alexa Show/Ipad devices you still have to go through a few clicks or two in order to see whos at the front door.

Would be nice. Keypads: 1. Numbers are next to the buttons. Would be nice to have the numbers on the buttons or, at least, have the buttons be rimmed in a different color or actually a different color than white. 2. Home and Away icons are nearly identical and kind of small. Would be nice to have very different icons that are more clearly visible. 3. The voice is very low and hard to hear. Would be nice to have it louder. 4. Sticky back cradle would prevent more screws in walls. Motion Sensors: 1. The sticky strips really do take off paint and what looks like the top layer of drywall. It's really light, seems as if 3M removables would work. 2. It is difficult to find the right place for these. Would be nice to use removables here as well. We ended up moving these around several times before finally affixing them to the wall with screws. Lots of excess holes and patchwork. Base Station: 1. The power cord has a notch but the ethernet cable does not. Ended up having to order a flat cable because a regular round one did not work when placing on a wall. Instructions: 1. Would be nice to have more detailed instructions along with an insert that shows the details of the Keypad to put up next on the wall so everyone can learn. Still confused about bypassing sensors on the keypad itself (easy on the app) and need to look that up. Thanks!

Hello, I would love to use a door sensor for my mailbox so I can get an alert when the mail has been delivered. The current sensor does reach with the use of the range extender included with the alarm kit and alerts occur when I test the two parts of the sensor inside the mailbox. It even works if I have the wider side (has the battery) mounted to the mailbox, but the smaller magnetic side is not mounted. As soon as I attach the magnetic side to the metal mailbox the sensor quits working. It would be great to include a specific sensor for mailboxes or a simple kit to allow it to work when mounted on metal. Thanks in advance for considering this, Chris
