Video Doorbell Spamming UDP Traffic to Home Router

troubleshooting

My Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 occasionally spams my home router with UDP traffic, exceeding hundreds of megabytes of data over time. I managed to capture some of the traffic using Wireshark. In this instance, it sent traffic on UDP port 21065 and continued doing so despite my router rejecting the traffic with ICMP responses. I don't see anything on the Protocols and Ports Used by Ring Devices page that describes this behavior. Following the mess, there is a series of ping requests sent from my doorbell to the router mixed in with a ton of fragmented ICMP packets. The Wireshark capture reports the traffic between my doorbell and router was over 17 MB. I'm not a network engineer, but I don't think this is normal and feel this traffic is negatively impacting the performance of my doorbell.

I looked at the network traffic a little more. The UDP packets have the message "network interface egress speed test". It looks like it is part of the device health check. Why is it sending it to my router?

Hi @veilant. Long story short, the reason the packets are being sent to the router is because it's a connectivity test between the Ring device and router.
