Hi there, @theflyinghorse! Like most wifi enabled or smart home devices, your Ring devices will require a wifi connection to operate as intended. We are always working to add to and improve on our devices and features, thus you will notice many options on Ring.com. While Video Doorbells and Cameras connect to wifi, our [Ring Alarm system](https://shop.ring.com/pages/security-system) features a battery and cellular backup. It's best to look into all of our options for a well rounded 'Ring of security' at your home, especially if you are worried about specialized burglars. I recommend also checking out our [help center article about Amazon Sidewalk](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032492292-Sidewalk-Information). I hope this helps! :)
