Closed Circuit Recording?

Is there any way I can save closed circuit recordings from my doorbell camera? I don't feel particularly comfortable sending my doorbell video footage to third party and would like to instead setup a closed circuit recording inside my house. I am a software engineer and able/willing to put in some work (though I have my limits) to achieve this.
