Stickup Cam not charging from solar panel
Back in September I bought a Stick Up Cam and small solar panel. While the solar icon is there in the camera settings, it has never charged off the panel. Periodically I have to pull the battery out and charge it directly with a USB cable, which works fine. My understanding is that it won't charge from the panel if the battery charge is already high enough, but it goes down below 50% and still won't charge. I have a USB power meter which shows that the panel puts out just under 5v. I have tried replacing the panel with a USB powerbank and the camera won't charge from it, either.

Since my power meter shows that the panel is generating 4.9v, it seems like the power is there. Is there anything that could keep the battery from charging other than not getting enough sun, like a cable or connector fault? Edit to add: I've drawn the zone so that the camera doesn't record too much.

J@Dimdem. At this point, the next best step would be to give our support team a call for further assistance.

One of our rear cams dropped down to 3% charge an I was told that every 3-4 months I need to pull the battery from the cam and charge it fully and replace it to "reboot" the panel? I wondered if there was a sign to look for to require the beboot

CHi @user_3d59f2. There is no way to reboot a Ring Solar Panel. You can reboot a Ring camera from the Ring app using the reboot option on the Device Health page. I would suggest doing a reboot as a troubleshooting step whenever you notice any performance issues with your device.

Hi @Dimdem. Connecting a Stick Up Cam to the Ring Solar Panel can provide a trickle charge, but it requires at least 3-4 hours of direct sunlight per day. Indirect sunlight will not work. The rate of charging from the solar panel is not going to be as quick as manually charging the battery. If your Stick Up Cam records a lot of activity, the battery may drain more quickly than it can be charged via the panel.
