Ring Security Cameras
Spotlight cam with USB-C not working, no power, but both still work separately
Issue: USB C power connection to outdoor ring spotlight cam has failed. Spotlight cam with USB C power supply worked for about two months outdoors. Suddenly stopped working, camera is not getting power from the USB C connection. Camera works just fine when plugged into another USB C power source. Ring USB C power cable works fine when another device is connected to it. I’ve read many posts with this same issue. My ring power cable is run through areas that are difficult to access and an exterior wall. I’ve also had two older ring spotlight cams with the barrel connection that have never had an issue. I love these cameras but this new USB C connection seems to be vulnerable and not a smart choice to power an exterior device. Please help.

Hi Justin. I have tried this step and it is not the solution. The camera and original ring USB C power cable are still incompatible. I have contacted the Ring support team and they sent me a new power cable. I realize this is the cheaper step and first in the troubleshooting process, but I am not confident that the same type of power cable (just newer) will be the solution. Currently the camera is working with the new power cable, but I’m worried that it won’t last.

Hi @Johnnymillers. Try factory resetting your Camera and then reconnecting it to your wifi to see if it helps. To factory reset your Camera press and hold the setup button on it for 20–25 seconds. If you have tried this step and are still having the same concern, give our support team a call to further investigate this with you.
