Using a solar panel, Ring says: If you have a Solar Panel connected to your Ring device, it will wait until the battery charge drops below a certain level threshold before recharging it. What is the threshold? My camera dropped all the way to 55% before I got on a ladder and unplugged and then plugged in the solar panel which essentially rebooted the system and it started charging. My status when not charging says connected. Ring support is terrible!

Hi @Petit. I am happy to chime in. You should not have to constantly unplug and plug your Solar Panel to your Camera to get it to charge. I would recommend trying to factory reset your Camera to see if it helps. To factory reset your Camera press and hold the setup button on it for 20–25 seconds and then reconnect it to your wifi. If you have tried this step and are still having the same concern, you will need to continue working with our support team to look into this further. You can also send our support team on Facebook a PM to @Ring.

Thank you. Ring support is poor. Not helpful at all. Yes, I have tried factory reset. I still think it is software/firmware issue. The optimization apparently has bugs in it.

@Petit Unfortunately, we are limited to general troubleshooting assistance here on the Community, as we do not have access to any device details. It's possible the cable is somehow coming loose, which is why the Solar Panel stops charging the camera, but begins charging it again after the cable is removed and reconnected. This is only speculation on my part, and I would recommend following up with our support team to take a closer look at things on the back end.

Hi @Petit. This threshold is about 90% before the Ring Solar Panel will begin trickle charging the battery in your Ring Camera again. Disconnecting the panel and reconnecting it is a good troubleshooting step to take. Additionally, make sure the panel is receiving at least 3-4 hours of direct sunlight per day. Keep in mind that this trickle charge will not be as quick as when you plug the battery into a standard power outlet with the included charging cable. This means that the battery may drain more quickly than the Solar Panel can charge it, particularly if your Ring Camera is recording a large number of events.

Thank you Caitlyn_Ring. My camera/solar panel is mounted on a gutter and is difficult to reach due to my disability. Only once has the software initiated charging when the level was down below 80%. The last time, it was down to 55% and zero charging. When I do manage to climb a ladder and disconnect then reconnect (essentially rebooting) it will then charge to 100%. I believe it is a software issue but Ring Support always tells me to disconnect/reconnect which does result in charging one time. Why should I have to do that every time the unit is not charging? When not charging, it says connected. When charging, it says connected to a device capable of charging the battery.
