New Spotlight Cam Plus Solar - mount issues
troubleshooting
security-camera-mount

So having bought one of these new improved Plus cams, I note the mounting hole in the back of the unit has disappeared since it was upgraded from the original Spotlight Solar which preceded the Plus model. On the old model, I could quite happily screw in a Wasserstein mount to vastly improve the horizontal axis angle so I could position the cam at up to 90 degrees to the wall on which it was mounted. Now this mounting hole has been removed from the new 'improved' product, I'm stuck with the mounting that comes with the cam which is woefully inadequate and is really only suitable where it can be attached to a wall without the need to swivel it horizontally in order to satisfactorily capture the viewing area. Does anyone have a solution to this or know of any mounts that might have been manufactured to fit with a greater horizontal axis than the current limited 'ball' mount can provide (a gutter or pole mount won't be suitable in this case). Also and given that this will be used outdoors, are these new usb-c connectors for the solar panel really any good? Compared to the old barrel connectors that plug into the back of the camera, the usb-c connectors don't seem as watertight. Many thanks in advance.

Hi @TSC. As of now, we do not have any mounts, like you are describing, available for the Spotlight Cam Plus Solar available on Ring.com. As for it being weather-resistant, it has an IP65 rating.

Thanks Justin, That’s a shame about the mount but I’m intrigued as to why the mount hole was removed from the new generation cam as you didn’t have mounts for the previous generation of Spotlight Cam either and presumably, you were quite happy for people to fit third party mounts then so why not now? Essentially, unless the new generation cam is head-on to the viewing area, it’s useless. Thanks for confirming the IP65 rating which is water resistant rather than water proof. Does this rating just apply to the Spotlight Cam or does it also apply to the solar panel USB-C input into the Spotlight Cam? It seems to me that the USB input is going to cause huge issues further down the line and I have no idea what possessed Ring to do this with a camera destined for outdoor use. Lastly, when will you introduce the functionality to reboot a camera remotely? Currently, I have to take a 13 hour round trip to press a button in or on my camera. Would you agree that this might be considered as slightly over the top when such functionality exists with competitors? I’m pro-Ring but this missing aspect on its own is enough to drive me away as a customer. Thank you

@TSC. I do not have information as to why that was changed, and for the IP65 rating, that does apply to the Solar Panel USB-C input when plugged into the Camera. As for rebooting your Camera remotely, you can, and this Help Center [article](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/7438395032980-Rebooting-your-Ring-Doorbell-or-Security-Camera-) will show you how. The Camera does have to be online; if it is offline, there is no way to communicate with it, and it would have to be rebooted in person.

Thanks Justin, Good to know about the IP rating and interesting to see the reboot info too, thank you. I think I meant how do we reconnect when it goes offline without having to press a button but from what you’re saying, this isn’t possible which is a shame.
