Gen3 outdoor stick up camera power

Question

For outdoor use; I have to use the transformer adapter, but indoor I don’t ? What happens if I don’t use the transformer for outdoor purposes. Lightning killed the transformer so I need to replace it or just power to 110v without. This is a wired camera, no battery
