Cameras randomly disconnecting from WiFi

There needs to be a better explanation for why cameras drop off for quite literally no apparent reason. My cameras stay connected constantly with good RSSI, excellent even, and with no power outages. Then randomly, from time to time, one will disconnect and never reconnect. I have to manually reconnect my floodlight, doorbell, etc by going to it and pressing the button and going through the inane new installation process. It's getting rather annoying that when I ask Ring, I get the same responses over and over again to check everything that never has an issue. No, I didn't change my wifi password. No,  there isn't any interference. No, the power wasn't disconnected. Ring needs to have an answer for this, because I find it awfully inconvenient when I'm trying to look in on my property and a camera is down for no reason. Do better!

Hi @Tdaugh. Are your devices connected to a 2.4GHz or 5GHz network, or a network that automatically switches between the 2?

I also has this now for over a month. I have doorbell pro wired 2 which works OK. 6 wired outdoor floodlight plus. Outdoor cameras rarely disconnected from WiFi, which power cycle solved. Now for a month or so it says camera offline, while it's taking snapshots, or is indeed offline, and needs daily power cycles and after few hours again stops taking snapshots. This is very very bad. I'm a plan subscriber, and was generally happy with my setup which I've been using for 2-3y. But last month is horrible. Nothing changed on my network. I have 6 google wifi pucks, connected via ethernet, and have good coverage over all my area. I did reboot my network, but it didn't change anything. No, I don't want to take hours, to go factory reset each camera, and then setup all the details again. My best guess is that some firmware update caused this, as currently this is extremely bad. I would deeply appreciate ideas to try, and to resolve this. Thank you

Hi @user_e74fe4. We can't address issues with 6 cameras at once, they have to be dealt with on an individual basis. What is the RSSI for each device? Are these devices battery powered with solar, or plugged in? Are they connected to a 2.4GHz network? Thanks for this information.

Hi @Tom_Ring, I cannot reply to you for some reason, so I'm replying to myself. I also didn't get any notification that you replied, thank you! So the cameras RSSI didn't change, and I've noted that they worked before. Backyard: 64 Balcony: 68 Entrance: 49 Garage: 72 Orchard: 44 Yard: 64 (All are wired Floodlight Cam Wired Plus) Front Gate (doorbell pro 2): 76 (never seen it offline) I have an ethernet connected mesh of 7 Google Wifi access points, they serve 2.4ghz and 5ghz.I believe floodlight cam wired plus is not 5ghz capable, so yes, they are connected to 2.4ghz.

Hi @tdaugh. Thanks for the reply. Most of your cameras are in what I would consider the "needs improvement" range. This Help Center article here will show you what your RSSI strength means. All of your cams, with the exception of Entrance and Orchard, are going to have moments where they can disconnect.   With an already high RSSI, the cams are straining to stay connected. When you have other items using WiFi, your cams with poor RSSI are competing for WiFi strength. This is an oversimplification of the process, but the sentiment is ture. So, to fix this, you'll need to improve your WiFi strength. I suggest a Chime Pro, which is a Ring Device only WiFi extender.

Hi @Tom_Ring, I refuse to believe rssi is the issue. Of course you're putting this now in front like improving rssi would fix the issue. So we can also go the other route, and just focus on the two cameras that have good rssi. Entrance and Orchard are very often offline, I can share screenshots from multiple days, where Orchard and Entrance are "offline in the app", capturing no snapshots for two days while recording all of the motion events. I have your cameras for more than a year, and suddenly they are going offline, my walls didn't get thicker, wifi didn't get saturated. There is no difference between the cameras, both Orchard and Entrance are for like a month now, or maybe two, often offline. They don't show snapshots for days sometimes, and are noted as offline, but they do record motion events (while they are apparently offline). All cameras are showing the same behavior now for two months, making them basically useless for security. How do we progress this?

Hi @tdaugh. There's no one thing I can say that will provide a solution, because three are many variables that can contribute to this. The 3 big components are power, connection and network. If your devices have constant power, a good RSSI, then there may be an issue with your network.    The thing is, not all of your cameras have a good RSSI. That means that they are all competing for a good signal. Another step you can take would be to change your WiFI channels to ones that are less congested. This will help with your cameras competing for signal strength. This Help Center article here has recommendations for WiFi channels. I'll also suggest the steps listed in this Help Center article here.    In addition to improving your RSSI, these two things are about all I can suggest. If you've tried those, you can reach out to our support team for more in depth troubleshooting and to run diagnostic test on your specific devices. If you'd like to go that route, please send us a private message on Facebook or X @Ring or give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here. If you are outside of the US, please visit here to see how to contact support. Feel free to include the link to this thread in your support team message so they can reference thes steps we've taken. Follow up and let me know how this goes!
