Ring motion detector false alarms
motion-detector
troubleshooting
I have two motion detectors that work normally when I test them. When I arm the system they detect motion immediately and set off the alarm. They are both in the corners of each room 8 feet up on 10 foot ceilings. No ceiling fans on (when I tested for motion with the ceiling fans on they are not detected). Sensitivity is set to low. No pets in house no balloons. . Help! Thanks.

Hi @Drjohkent. Windows, heat sources, and air vents can also cause false motion detection alerts if your Motion Detector is facing any of them. If your Motion Detector is clear of any of those potential obstructions, I'd suggest factory resetting your Motion Detector. This will remove it from your Ring Alarm, and restore the default settings so you can start fresh. To factory reset your Motion Detector, please follow the steps below:1. Remove the Motion Detector back cover. Keep the batteries in the device.2. Use the pinhole tool or a paper clip to press and hold the reset button (on the back of the device) until you see the LED on the front turn red, about 10 seconds.3. After the reset, add the Motion Detector back in the Ring app using the steps under Set Up a Device. If you run into any issues getting the Motion Detector added back into your system, check out [these](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042653931-Troubleshooting-your-Ring-Alarm-Motion-Detector-2nd-generation-) troubleshooting steps. If this concern persists and you cannot determine the cause of the motion detection, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406).
