How does Ring determine when permits are needed?

When I set up Ring, it told me that I did not need a permit for my area. A false alarm and a $325 bill later says that is wrong. How does Ring determine when a permit is needed? I realize I should have double checked, but then why offer the feature in the first place?

Hi @user19482. Ring will use the nearest jurisdiction to the address you registered Professional Monitoring with to determine if you require an [Alarm Permit](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005056686-Ring-Alarm-and-the-Permit-Process). If you received an email stating you did not need a permit but did need one for your jurisdiction please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406). If you are outside of the US, please visit [here ](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/213608406)to see how to contact support. They will be able to conduct a more in-depth look into your concern
