First Alert Smoke Alarm
I am trying to understand communication between First Alert smoke alarm and the base station. I got a new smoke alarm yesterday and got it set up. Then I pulled the batteries out. Even after an hour the device page reported smoke alarm ‘cleared’, showed battery status full. Ring support team has not been able to help.

Thank you very much Caitlyn. Guess I was not clear in my message. I got the alarm two days back, so very new to this device. The alarm did communicate and passed the communication test. I then pulled the batteries out and waited for status change. The base station did not report the alarm offline even after a long time. The Smoke Alarm in the devices page showed status as ‘cleared’ and the battery indicator showed full. How would I know if the batteries go dead during my absence? Thanks.

C@ronald8750 The battery status not updating after the battery is removed indicates that the First Alert isn’t communicating with the Base Station properly. However, we’re limited to general troubleshooting suggestions here on the Community since we can’t view device details on the back end. I’d recommend reaching out to our support team and requesting to speak with the Ring Alarm team specifically. They can take a look at things in more depth.

Hi @ronald8750. The First Alert Z-Wave Smoke/CO Alarm is a Works With Ring device that communicates to your Ring Alarm Base Station using Z-Wave. While Z-Wave has a farther effective range than wifi, your First Alert Smoke/CO Alarm still needs to be within range of the Base Station to be able to communicate. Try bringing it closer to the Base Station, then perform a factory reset and a fresh setup. If it still does not appear to be communicating with the Base Station, I’d recommend following up with our support team. When you do so, ensure you are requesting to speak with the Ring Alarm team specifically, since this is a Works With Ring Alarm device.
