Ring Doorbell wired - Missing motion detect event

troubleshooting

I just bought one ring doorbell wired. Tonight, the doorbell captured my neighour towarded to our home but then stopped and standed in the middle of the way. I got alert for the motion and then turned on to the live view, I saw he standed there for a while then turned back to his home. The recorded video is only around 30 seconds, and contains his towarding to our home and standing there, but did not capture his leaving. Could anyone help to explain what maybe wrong? I thought leave is also a motion that should be detected and recorded as well. Thanks

Hi @user4204. The Doorbell will save recordings from motion events as well as from when you access the Live View. When you opened the Live View, that will now be saved as a new recording for the duration that you're watching it. You can also adjust the Video Recording Length by following the steps below. * Open your Ring app. * Tap the three lines on the top left of the Dashboard. * Tap on **Devices** . * Tap the device you want to adjust. * Tap **Device Settings.** * Tap **Video Settings** . * Tap **Video Recording Length** . * Select the amount of time you want your Ring device to record. You can read more about the options available for adjusting the Video Recording Length on your Doorbell Wired in our Help Center Article [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360049667572-Adjust-the-Video-Recording-Length-for-Wired-Devices). I hope this information helps! :)

Thanks Caitlyn. The live view was recorded. But I did the live view after a minute. My question is: should the doorbell detect another motion in this minute for his leaving? Also, my "video recording length" is set to 60s, but seems all of my recording is around 30 seconds. why?

@user4204 After the Doorbell detects a motion and starts recording, that video will process and save so it's unlikely to catch multiple recordings from the same event (in this case, your neighbor walking up to your door and then away). As for the recording length, you may have [Motion Verification](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001858043-My-Video-Recording-Stops-After-20-Seconds) toggled on. Motion Verification makes Motion Detection more accurate because it reduces unwanted motion notifications and trims recordings before they end. For example, if there is a Motion Event, like a person walking in front of a camera, your camera might keep recording even after the person is out of range of the camera and nothing is happening. If you have Motion Verification turned on for your device, this might change your max recording length. For example, if you chose 30 seconds as your Video Recording Length and you have Motion Verification turned on, your video might cut off at 15 seconds if there’s nothing being recorded. If you want to turn your Motion Verification on or off, follow these steps: * Open your Ring app and tap on the three lines on the top left of the Dashboard screen. * Tap Devices. * Select the device you want to adjust. * Tap Motion Settings. * Tap Motion Verification. * Toggle the Motion Verification button on or off.
