Ring 2 solar charging + wired doorbell?
My Ring 2 video doorbell has suddenly started losing its battery charge every 10 to 15 days now that our weather temperatures have dropped dramatically into winter. It was a solid 11 or 12 months before the very first time I had to charge it in October 2020, and now I’m charging it for the second or third time since October! So I ordered the solar charging panel despite its mediocre reviews online to see if that could help extend our battery life a bit. But when I took it out of the box to look at it today, I realized that I may not be able to keep the doorbell connected to my wired home doorbell!? I want our interior doorbell to still ring and I know that the wires gave it a trickle of a charge as well. Does using the solar panel mean that I can no longer have my doorbell wired also? How will we/my kids hear the doorbell ring if my cell phone is on silent or I’m not home? :-/

So I am still in the return window for this item from Amazon. Should I return the solar charger? I assume there is no benefit in using the Solar Powered Battery Charger on my covered porch instead of the wired connection? (I was just disappointed at how quickly the battery has started draining suddenly when the weather turned cold.) My battery is 14 months old.

Hi @goldentwig. That is correct, you cannot have the Doorbell connected to both the Solar Charger and the existing doorbell wires in your home. The reason for this is that there are no terminal screws on the back of the Solar Charger, as it is designed to help provide a trickle charge to the Doorbell's battery. Having the Doorbell wired to your existing doorbell circuit already provides this trickle charge function as well. I hope that helps clear things up for you! :)
